Root GingerShedBread/GSB

This ROM is moving too fast for me. I just loaded 2.2 on Friday. I usually skip a few versions anyway. If anyone finds something significantly better with 2.3, let us all know.

I thought I was the only one to have this problem but somebody else said something about it too, sooo at times my 3g seems to be spotty and when I load a page it tells me to check my internet connection. So what I'm wondering is could it be the Change over to 4g?

Interesting. I have had some trouble connecting occasionally in a place where I know there is a signal. I have found that putting it in airplane mode and then taking it out seems to fix it.

It was driving me crazy because it was happening every morning when I get to the parking lot for the commuter rail. They finally put in a pay-by-phone system, and I couldn't use it because I couldn't get online.

Same here. It takes way too long to set things back up again, since I won't do a non-wipe update anymore. I won't go through this more than once every ten days at this point (unless something in 2.2 breaks, of course.)

I am still new to all this and just flashed my ROM 2 days ago, so skipping this update as well for now.
The one I flashed runs great atm, still tweaking and testing of course :)

Oh, and now there is 2.4. It's CM7 RC3. I definitely think I'll wait this one out a bit.

unfortunately,im wifi only my my lil buddy,so i cant comment on the 3g prollem. it seems unlikely to be connected to the 4g appearance,as 3g towers should still operate as they should... its not like 4g is replaceing 3g. but i definately could be wrong. do you know if you have this issue in other roms? if its related to 4g,id think youd see the same thing in every rom you run.

at the top of the thread it says this:

CyanogenMOD 7.0.0 RC3 Gingerbread NIGHTLY for the Droid Eris

This ROM is CyanogenMod Team Approved! It is now merged into their repo...

does this mean we should start seeing the eris on CMs website? its not in the "Supported devices" as of yet,i dint see any references on the blog, and if theres links in the RC or nightly sections,i dont know which it is.

I have no problem with a nightly build, but I do have a problem spending two hours several times a week getting my phone set up properly. A nightly every 7 - 10 days or so is fine by me at this point.

Not sure, but it's in CM's github: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_desirec

yeah im just messin with ya :p i wouldnt do it either if i spent that much time on it.

on my inc i flash nightlys overtop of the previous night most of the time. once a week or so,or if i have strange minor issues pop up ill do a fresh install. it doesnt take me nearly that long to set my phone up when i do... i have a pretty basic layout i like to use and i got setup down to a science :D it takes me less than an hour to completely set it up,inclusing configuring msn email and setting my ringtones. i could prolly do it in half our if i really wanted to

thats how boring my life is,lol... the highlight of my day is comin home to see i got a new nightly to flash ;)

Whoaaa wtf!!! How did I miss that and you beat me to it.;):D
ya got to get up early in the morning to beat me BC! im about to flash it :)

what issues have you guys had that youre wanting to do a fresh install every time now with GSB?

I don't set anything backup. I just do a dalvik wipe and flash over the previous version. I don't have any problems other than the dialer and I don't thinks its because of that

As you'll recall, I was having issues with the Amazon Kindle app when I did that. I also lost probably 20 MB of space in /data; I don' think that flashing over works well with the cache2cache script.

So, I have to change all of my sounds for all of my apps that use sound notifications. I have to set my ringtone. I have to change display properties. I have to go into Google Voice to set it up as my voicemail provider. I have to go into CyanogenMod settings and change the notifications LED settings, so all apps are "white", then set my lockscreen preferences, and change the backlight preferences, and the performance settings. I start each of my root-required apps so that SU gets set to allow each to run. I have to reset my home screen widgets, launch most apps to make sure that the data is there and authenticate online, if they are set that way. Make sure that all of my apps are installed.

And I am probably forgetting things.

I don't want to do this every day.

Like I said, I noticed that I was having a spontaneous reboot - it happened twice - and I also noticed that cache2cache did not seem to be working as it did on a fresh install. It may work better for others - perhaps it's just that I use cache2cache and the mix of apps that I have installed.

doogald,

I started flashing over the top because you were doing it. Is it a bad idea afterall?
do you seem to be having any issues? if so,id try a fresh install. if not, keep flashing over... there doesnt seem to be a well defined right or wrong answer ;)

I haven't flashed cache2cache but the one time and I do remember some problems we were having. So I only used it on the one version (don't remember which one). I've been flashing over since.

I was getting spontaneous reboots trying to run the Kindle app - not every time it was run, but it was happening daily. I'm not sure if anybody else has seen that, but I've gone back to xtrROM one last time to see if I can live with it (it's not looking good so far - I had a calendar notification that never went off last night, so I was late). Otherwise, I may try a fresh install of GSB 2.2 (ugh!) and if I can keep that stable, just stay there and not install any updates for a month or so.

Let us know if you resolve the issues, doogald.

So far, so good. 5 days in and everything is working perfectly. Well, I had a couple of app updates in the market fail to download and/or install, but for the most part that has been ok, too.

I'm starting to give serious thoughts to installing xtrSENSE 5.0.1, and maybe using zanfur's original OC kernel. Between the spontaneous reboots and butting up against web sites with Flash content... well, it would be nice to have a ROM that "just works".

As far as you know (afaYk), is the notification bug specific only to xtrROM (and not xtrSENSE)?

I know this is OT in this thread, but I have a new theory why this may have been happening. I was running SetCPU on both xtrSENSE and xtrROM with the minimum set to 19.2 on the display off profile. My theory is that this was too slow for the phone to process the calendar notifications.

That said, I think it'll be a while before I test this out. I think I'm a little ROM-hopping weary at the moment. It's kind of nice to just relax and use the phone.

I've read somewhere that underclocking your CPU can indeed hinder your notifications.

I just did a fresh wipe data and installed the newest gsb, and all seems to be going well so far...camera works, wireless works, data works, sms/mms work, etc.

I haven't played with it yet. Have you noticed the old time tv stopped. Mine did after 2.3 or that's when I noticed it. Downloaded 2.5 yesterday.

Yeah, I have noticed that.

I'm just excited about how smoothly 2.5 is running! And I have yet to do a clean install since I first came over from CELB Froyo! I've just been flashing every version over the last!

They must have fixed a significant bug or something! I just hope it stays this fast!!!

Yea I have noticed it to be a little faster. The test for me will be the phone dialer. That's what is always super laggy. Are you using cache2cashe?
