Root GingerShedBread/GSB

I don't have those problems that I have noticed (though I don't get many phone calls.)

A few things to try:

- in settings->CyanogenMod settings->Performance, turn on JIT and turn on keep home in memory. Restart the phone to make these hold. I'm not sure which governor that you have in CPU settings in there (or in CPU Boost, if you are using it.) OnDemand should give better performance than smartass, smartass should give better battery life, all other things being equal.

Also, for future reference, ignore anybody who tells you that you should wipe data or dalvik more than once at a time. It's silly to think that the wiping process decides to stop before it is all done. It's like telling you to format a disk three times. A format is a format is a format, with the exception that the data on a phone is stored in flash memory rather than a mechanical disk, like the ones you would format. It doesn't hurt, I guess, but it's just a waste of time.

Are you using the default keyboard or another one? The default may be faster.

I'm going into Cyanogen settings now. As I do this, what do you think of setting the CPU to a minimum of 480? Won't hurt anything right? And how about a max? What do you reco? I believe mine is at 710(currently).

Oh, and............default keyboard. The one that came through with the Rom is the one being used. I have changed nothing but take off the vibrate/haptic.

UPDATE: Yes, I have already (yesterday once I flashed this) changed my Governor to ONDEMAND. I read a post of yours yesterday stating that about ON vs. SMART. So, that has been done (right away) and my CPU is set to MIN480 MAX710. Read yesterday that if I raise the MIN to 480 that might help speed things up also. And the CM settings, already checked/set as you stated above (Use JIT, Keep home).

You may want to try that TastyBread version. I think some of the folks here report that it feels faster.

As for the governor, you can try smartass and see if it's faster. It could turn out that it is.

Another thing I did was change my VM Heap size to 24m. I'm running the smartass governor with MIN at 248 and Max at 710 and my phone has never been snappier (and I came over from Nonsensikal). I had problems with this ROM in v1.8 lagging really bad with an incoming call, but since I flashed v1.9 it's gone. I hate getting on my wife's Eris (unrooted cause she won't let me!!) because it is really slow.

I'll set it up that way for awhile see how it goes.

That's how mine's set up too but I'm experimenting with the default speed of 604 MHz to see if I can see a difference from 710 MHz.

I'm wondering about CompCache... Is it better disabled or set to 18 default?

I run 729 MHz and turn my CompCache off.

WOW! Throughout the day this ROM has settled in quite nicely. The lags that were, are gone. It's fast, and in my opinion a very classy looking ROM. Now, I need to work on theming. I really want that "Dark Horse" Theme over on XDA. Then, I'm going to be done playing with this phone for awhile and just enjoy it. I downloaded Metamorph, NInjaMorph, BusyBox so I can get to work on a theme.

OH BOY, okay wait, one last problem. I'm trying to download items from the market. I have PLENTY of space, I have an 8GB SD, that says I have 4.04GB empty. My phone says I have 108MB available space. BUT, I'm trying to add things and the downloads say I either have no SD card installed or there is not enough room. What gives?

Maybe I'll flash back to it and give it another go.:)

HEY GUYS! Read what I wrote in RED above. All the little quirks I had are gone, this little ROM is running nicely.
I'm using SMARTASS as my gov, 245Min and 710Max. Use JIT and Lock home in memory are checked.VM heap size at 24. With those settings, this ROM has moved along quite nicely since my morning posts. However, I myself am now getting the "no stotage space" deal. I have plenty of room, but nothing will download as it tells me either there is no SD card in place OR it is full. Fixes?

Are you trying to download directly to your SD card? If so, change it to download to internal memory. Since moving over to GSB, I don't have one app on my SD card and I have a lot of apps.

If that's not the case, then I would make a nandroid and reflash.

just so theres no confustion :)

I was finally able to flash this...anyone know how to hide the default battery icon?

I flashed a different one over it. Tazz has a cool looking gauge over on XDA under the THEMES section. Should still be right at top. You can flash it as a zip with the greatest of ease. Took me less than 1 minute, and it looks GREAT!

I love this ROM, but I find myself back to XTRrom within a week or so of use. It seems to me that 2.2 and 2.3 ROMS seem to slow down after a certain period.

With how often this ROM is updated, how do you get a week's use without a a clean flash?

Also, looks like Shed is attempting to make this official. He submitted his vendor tree to CM today and said to expect an update very soon.

I do get that once every so often when installing/updating an app. But on the second attempt it always installs fine.

Same for me. I thought it had gone away with 1.9 but it eventually happened again. :(

I'm testing a hypothesis that says that it might have something to do with the setting to install apps to External vs. Internal memory (or Automatic), combined with xtrcache2cache. When it's set to Automatic or Internal, I'm theorizing that the problem may not occur. I'm testing it on Automatic to see if it indeed makes a difference.

Has anyone had app updates fail to install the first time when you had it set to install in Internal memory or set on "Automatic?" It may have something to do with forcing it to install someplace that "feels" unnatural (SD) to it when its cache is stored someplace unusual (xtrcache2cache).

When you figure it out let us know. Aside from the laggyness I get (maybe it's just me) and the storage thing that's what keeps me from flashing back to it. I very seldom use my computer to move files or downloads.;) So it's a pain in my a** when downloading a zip and have to do it again.
