I don't think that's not technically what's going to happen if he is approved (that is, making GSB an official CM7 version.) What will happen is that Workshed's vendor tree will make the Eris an officially supported platform, and you can grab and install CM7 from within ROM Manager. However, this will be a "clean" CM7 build - no Launcher Pro, no circle battery, no CCName app, etc. It will be clean CM7, with ADW and everything that is a default CM7 install.

I am sure that Workshed will continue to provide GSB, but if his vendor tree is accepted and he is chosen to maintain the Eris, we'll all be able to do a clean CM7 install. At least, that's how I understand the process.

I'm testing a hypothesis that says that it might have something to do with the setting to install apps to External vs. Internal memory (or Automatic), combined with xtrcache2cache. When it's set to Automatic or Internal, I'm theorizing that the problem may not occur. I'm testing it on Automatic to see if it indeed makes a difference.

Has anyone had app updates fail to install the first time when you had it set to install in Internal memory or set on "Automatic?" It may have something to do with forcing it to install someplace that "feels" unnatural (SD) to it when its cache is stored someplace unusual (xtrcache2cache).

When I had the problem, I had far more problems with automatic updates, FWIW.

My market update problems have not recurred in 1.9, and that's even with xtrcache2cache installed. I'm not sure what's different, but this time I installed GSB and gapps, restarted the phone, installed my apps in the market and got everything set up. Then I restarted to recovery and flashed xtrcache2cache. (After that I installed three or four more apps that I use occasionally but figured that I could live without cache2cache, as much of what they do can be replicated in a browser.)

So, in the past I was flashing xtrcache2cache right after gapps and before I set up the ROM, and now I flash GSB and gapps, restart and set up everything, and then flash xtrcache2cache.

I don't think that the market or the apps know that you are installing to an unnatural location. Whenever anything uses the file system to access /data/dalvik-cache, the symlink redirects the calls to /cache/dalvik-cache and everything goes there instead. The app/process making the call has no idea that any of this magic is happening in the background.

I'll have to try it your way and see if it works the way it's supposed to.

BTW, are you storing apps on SD?
 
Can I flash from v1.7 to v1.9 without loosing everything and restarting? What is the right process to do this correctly??

Yes but you will have to re-flash gapps. Flash it immediately after flashing 1.9.

Wiping your Dalvik cache is a good idea too.

I've stopped. In the past I had several problems with apps not updating from the market if they are stored there, and, while I Nandroid backup with Clockwork, so I know that those apps are backed up and can be restored, I still have better luck with apps internal.

I also had a problem moving an app back to internal last week, btw. I had to uninstall it and then reinstall.

As much as I'd love to stick with internal memory, I simply can't fit enough of the apps I use without storing most of them on SD.

I wonder if flashing xtrcache2cache later like you do would still make a difference even if I'm storing apps mainly on SD...
 
Has anyone that's used the Android Web Market noticed that it lists the device as Sprint HTC (at least on 1.8.1)? Then again... does it really even make a difference?

Sorry for being dumb- so the right order is:
1) download ROM/gapps
2) nand backup
3) wipe dalvik cache
4) flash rom
5) flash gapps
6) restart

Is that right? Will I loose all of my apps that way, or only update the rom and keep apps because I didn't do a full wipe?

You'll lose all your apps but the market should, in theory, reinstall them for you automatically.

There are ways to back them up just in case, such as Titanium Backup.

No, as long as you do not do a wipe data/factory reset, your apps, data and most settings will stick between versions. I've been able to update with a wipe data all along.

That's right. For some reason, I was thinking you had a factory wipe in there. Probably since I was considering doing one for the next version, myself. :o
 
still a lil laggier than tastybread for me... its done syncing and downloading,but ill give it till morning to settle in ;)

Before, I would always run out of space unless I stored apps on SD. Do we have more internal space to work with now? :confused:
 
welp,just finished setting up my homescreens after letting it rest a few hours from the latest flash ;)

i still have a bit of the lag. its especially bad when opening beautiful widgets weather. might take a couple seconds for it to open up :eek: appdrawer opening/closing is still a lil sketchy as well. scrolling the homescreens is super smooth once it starts moving,but it takes a lil tiny bit for that to happen.

im gonna leave this version on for a couple days and see if it smooths out any. other than the above,its a great rom.

What are your performance settings? Have you tried the smartass governor?
