Root GingerShedBread/GSB

Hopefully someone could help me out with this I installed 3.5 Odex on both my phone and my wifes. My phone had Condemed *sp v 6 and my wife was running Nonsensikal 16.1. Since installing this rom she is not able to receive text messages. Did I miss a step. Do I need to delete that Secure file first? We wiped and flashed 3x with the same results.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

I never had problems with text messages but may others have.

I think the work around was to install the verizon text app from the market.

You should be fine installing VZ Messages and sending and receiving a few sms and mms messages. After that you usually can remove that app and be fine using stock or whichever messaging app you prefer. If that doesn't work I have a backup of the apn's that you can place on the SD Card and download apn backup/restore then use the apn backup file to restore the apn's on your phone. :)

This should all be true, but because of a weird bug in GSB 3.5, your phone won't know that you are running a Verizon phone and will not let you install Verizon Messages unless you do this workaround.

Install the app Market Enabler: https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler

Run it, go to "Settings list". Long press on "[us] Verizon - Verizon" and choose something (I can't remember the exact text - fake this setting? something like that.)

Until you restart the phone, your phone will now "know" that it is a Verizon phone. YOu can then install "Verizon Messages": https://market.android.com/details?id=com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs&feature=search_result

Run this and send a text message with this, just to make sure it works. You can then uninstall the app.

If that still doesn't work, there is a procedure that involves deleting the telephony.db file from a specific location on the phone and then restarting, but try that procedure above first.

Anyone else having issues with notifications? My phone vibrates for everything even though I've turned that option off for all apps...

Ah. Think Ive got it figured out. GBs profiles function has app specific settings, all of which vibrate by default. Did not see that before. <facepalm>

Holy mackerel, I go on vacation and miss a couple of weeks on xda and suddenly all this drama? What the heck happened?

I hadn't been on xda in a few months. I just checked it out and I was shocked. I'm not sure what happened, but the Eris is losing one of it's good developers.

The GSB thread has been closed and this is what workshed wrote:

If anyone would like to take over this ROM, msg me. I basically don't have the time to waste on it anymore, tired of the back stabbing, bullshit devs lying their asses off and starting drama. It never ends, and I'm tired of it.

Plenty of Eris ROMs here to play with, so it's not like I'm leaving anyone high 'n dry. Sorry to everyone that has played nice and enjoyed my work, everything comes to an end eventually.

Again, msg me if you want to take this over. I'll keep my account here for a while longer... YES, this is real, this is it for me.

Then someone acted disrespectfully. It's just shocking to see that within the development community.

Sad to see workshed go, but I can understand his reasons.

Luckily CondemnedSoul has a great ROM for us!
Don't even think about leaving the Eris anytime soon pleaaaaase. :D

That's really too bad.

I had bought and Inc2 and returned it as the buzzing from the earpiece was so horrible. Shame because it was otherwise a pretty good phone. I think the camera in the I2 is what rattles. I had considered the Droid 3 but the screen is so small so I'm waiting on the Bionic 9/8 supposedly. 4.3" dual core, LTE/CDMA/GSM (wow), two cameras.

Anyway, I just loaded the GSB rom onto the Eris. It is my backup phone. All I can say is wow. It breathes new life into the Eris. Even supports multiple exchange accounts. The phone feels twice as fast. It's actually usable now that Sense is ditched too.

It's too bad you gave up so easily on the DInc2. I am using it as my primary now, and LOVE it. I understand a few people have had issues with a rattle, but get a warrenty replacement and are now very happy. It is truly a great phone.

That said, I still run GSB on my Eris. The interface and style is slick as snot.

Yea I'm leaving my options open for now but the little Eris is handling my load nicely so I can afford to wait a bit and see what comes around. Three exchange accounts, one google, one facebook with 1650 contacts total. Five calendars and all the regular stuff that gets thrown at a phone.

I gave my DX to another employee. He dropped his on the concrete regularly. He drove over it with his truck accidently but it still worked fine. Even the screen wasn't cracked. What did it in was cooking in the truck at a job site in the desert to many times. Some of the LCD cells burst. I figured I would get the new phone since he is hard on them. That's why I look hard at the Motos. They are really tough phones. We have/had almost every Vzw smartphone in our company. Makes it easy to compare which is cool. Hate to say it but the iphone is the most stable. It's just to simplistic for me.

Hey all,
Just flashed GSB 4.1 ODEX and I'm digging it, however, it is very laggy. I had flashed GSB back when it was in its 1.5-2.5 times and never had lag problems.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what CPU settings are typically good and worked for you?

I just leave it default.

When you say laggy, what exactly do you mean? If it is just that the home screen is redrawing, you can try settings->cyanogenmod settings->performance->lock home in memory and see if that's better.

Whenever I scroll across screens it takes a second or two for the phone to even register I touched it, also when it comes to loading programs. I just came from xtrSENSE and it was fast then. I also just switched to ICS launcher to try something new, but even LauncherPro was slow as well.

Any suggestions perhaps if I have to go back to LauncherPro to have ICS look? I like the look and function. Kinda over LauncherPro...

It sounds to me like you're running out of memory. I ran into the same problem and ended up uninstalling the Facebook app, which helped free up some resources.

Personally, I prefer Condemned CM7 [ROM] 10/22/11 Condemned CM 7.1 V20 (2.3.7) Splashed with ICS - xda-developers

The screen shots aren't updated but v20 actually uses a fake ICS theme. Personally, I'm using LauncherPro and it runs well on it. Give it a try!

I'm assuming a full data-wipe is necessary from going from GSB to Condemned? Blah! Just don't want to spend all that time reinstalling apps :( but if its best for my little Eris!

I think it's the best rom to run on the Eris. If you backup everything with Titanium you should have to reinstall everything.
