Root GingerVillain Gingerbread rom - cannot change cpu settings

CyanogenMod Settings: Performance Settings: And set the Availble Governors to PowerSaver / OnDemand/Performance

It stays on ondemand and when i click on anything else nothing happens? nothing changes as the currently selected is still : ONDEMAND

Do i need to enable anything for this to work?

Agree, set cpu is better than the CM settings. Although CM works for me, still prefer SetCPU

can someone tell me what all the ONDEMAND and all those settings mean? and what is the one that turns the CPU right down when u lock the screen?

Ondemand etc are "cpu governors", i.e. different sets of rules for how the cpu speed should be adjusted according to load. Ondemand, the default, actually is a pretty good all-rounder.

Turning the wick down when the screen is off is done by a "profile" in SetCPU. I don't think the CM settings thing includes this option (like others here, I just use SetCPU).

Of course any governor (apart from Performance) would reduce clock speed when the load drops. What a screen off profile does is limit the maximum speed it can run at when the screen is off.

I still prefer on demand to any other governor.

Also powersave will not reduce cpu when there is less load because being the dead opposite of performance, it constantly runs at the minimum. Really pointless if you ask me, which you didnt.
