Giving Up On Metro For Now

I have the LG Motion which is soon to be obsolete with Metro. I have been waiting for months for them to come out with some new LG phones, but they have the same old LGs on their website, and I have been having more and more problems with my Motion dropping calls, etc., so I have decided to close my account with Metro. I may reopen at the end of January or February if the get some new LGs in.

I am going to miss my smart phone, but I am at home most of the time and have email, so it is not as though I will lose contact with the world. Still, I will miss not having access to my email, texts, etc., whence I am away from home. Hopefully, the months will go by quickly, and Metro will get some new phones!

Just paid a bill on August 22nd. If I close my account this next week, will they refund me any of the payment I just made?

Thanks.

No they won't, but I don't understand why you are waiting on metro to offer you a compelling device when you can just buy unlocked the f90 is pretty great I hear, sprint seem to love it as the volt. T-Mobile one is also well received. Since the CDMA to gsm your options grew a great deal, my break away device from lg motion was the Motorola atrix HD, my fianc

What about getting a LG Nexus 5 from Google Play? Works with MetroPCS and is only $350. Or as Dee said, you have tons of options with the GSM side to BYOD.

are you working with a certain budget to replace the current lg motion you have? Thanks

HunnieB, I was in the same boat months ago. Metro offered crap for cheap phones or $$$ for something decent. I was so happy with my Motion but alas. Poof went that network. I knew when the merger took place and they said nothing would change it really meant EVERYthing was going to change. I never expected to have to change phones though. I was so sold on the LG line I was almost blind to other brands.

Until I saw the Moto G for 200 bucks on Amazon. I got the 16gb version and am VERY happy. I walked into the Metro store, box in hand and the guy had me on with everything transfered over in 15 minutes. Pics, music, contacts, chat logs, etc.

Not worth not having a phone for emergencies and the convenience of email etc. Just do it and thank me later. *wink*

Hi Hulk,

Well, I do not want to spend a lot of money. In fact, I do not want to spend any money. My phone is well under two years old and cost $200 plus accessories, i.e. car charger, skin, etc. If Android made the Motion to operate on the GSM network, though, I would be interested in it. It has been a pretty good phone for me, although as a phone, I really do not use it much at all. I use it more for Internet and sometimes texting.

I am retired now, so I spend most of my time at home. I really need the phone most if I am gone for the day, which only happens two to three times a week from October through April. I hibernate from the heat from May though September. If I really need to do, I can always take my MacBook Air with him if I am out. I can use it to go on-line at any WiFi hotspot.

Thanks, Sipdude. I will look into it. : )

Hi Kate,

To be honest, if I were going to spend $350 right now, I would rather put the money into a nice antique that will hold its value, or maybe increase in value, over time. I cannot see spending a lot of money for another phone at this point. Metro has become unreliable at this point in time in my area. I like my Motion, but it drops calls a lot, and it sometimes takes forever for a text to go through.

Also, frankly, I am not a "phone shopper." I will spend hours a day shopping 19th century antiques, but phones? Ha! Getting the Motion was really serendipitous for me. Does not look like that is going to happen again any time soon.

Did you get a 16gb 4G LTE?

Screened a review of the Moto G on YouTube. Apparently, you cannot remove the battery from this phone. What happens if you need to replace the battery? Will the phone be worthless if the battery cannot hold a charge???

The Atrix HD is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and the F6 is still a great seller at stores and has LTE capability, but carrier unbranded friends can have hotspot capability but thats a touchy subject.

The Moto G 4G LTE only comes in an 8 Gig model. The 16 Gig model is the HSPA+ version.

You say you're having problems with your Motion right now; that is a CDMA phone, so maybe the Metro CDMA network isn't great where you are. Check out the T-Mobile network there; since Metro is now on T-Mobile's network for GSM you might have some good reception there and you can stay with Metro but on a GSM phone.

I have the 16 Gig Moto G as well, and love it greatly. It's a great phone, and getting web and text on the phone is fantastic.

In all likelihood, you won't have to change out the battery for the two, or more, years that you own it. The battery lasts me all day, with probably about 2 hours of screen on time.

I probably do not need that much storage. I never did fill up my Motion's internal storage, and the card that went in it (sim card?) went bad on me even though I never saved one thing to it. I care more about speed and a good, dependable connection. I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, so I "should" have great connection all of the time. Never had a problem before with my old non-smart phone, cell phone.

Was looking at the Moto X, too. It looks nice as well, but it costs a good bit more.

I'm in the east part of DFW, in Garland, and get as far west as Grapevine on a fairly regular basis. I usually have good service everywhere.

I am in Arlington Heights, and I have spoken to other Metro customers in my area who have the same problem. We also note that we have a problem picking up over the air telly stations. One of my friends moved a bit south and east of here, and now his phone and telly work much better. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the air force base. All that radar and goodness knows what else might effect radio and satellite signals.

Someone else had air Base issue

They don't make a LTE version in 16gb. Only the 8gb. The 8gb does have a slot for external storage... However you can't run apps from the external with latest kit-kat. As for storage I use the cloud anyway.

I got the 16gb 3g HSPA+ which in my opinion is awesome. Faster than my motion with 4g LTE. Brand new out of 16gb I got 12gb free.

Only 199 on Amazon too!!

Must be the area or something around it, I am in the Dfw area as well (Uptown). My wife still has her Motion and it works flawlessly wherever we go in the Dfw area.

That sounds excellent, but what is their coverage area like, and do they require a contract? I only pay $40 with Metro.

They're the prepaid company owned by AT&T so they have native AT&T coverage. I'm on the basic plan, $35 a month on auto pay, unlimited talk and text and 500 MB data. It's excellent! :D Oh and throttled unlimited data at 128 KB. No contract, prepaid service.

Wow, sounds good, but it is a CDMA network, and I want to go with a GSM network, as that seems to be where everything is moving. Interesting that I might be able to use my LG Motion with them, though, if it were "unlocked." Unfortunately, I do not know how to unlock the phone. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
