i'm new to smartphones. lg optimus v is my first. have just started using it more extensively and find that at my home, somewhat but not that remote, calls are garbled and conversation virtually impossible. just tried to leave msg and listened before sending....almost entirely garbled. so disappointed. can't even talk to anyone. main reason i have it. don't know what to do but spend more money than i should on higher end product with at&t.

Your experience is not common. How many bars do you have?

at&t is one of the worst cell phone companies around

Have you tried to reactive using the activate app? It could be that at your home you just have bad service. I don't have great service at my home either, but my calls never sound garbled. The calls will drop but they never sound distorted.

If you have WiFi at home, you could use something like GrooveIP to make your voice calls. Also you could see if there's a Virgin Mobile dealer around that can do a PRL update for your phone.

i googled PRL to understand what that is. sounds like some geeks try to circumvent VM/Sprints service to roam Verizon's. didn't see date of post and a warning was given, along with a mention that VM/Sprint would probably block settings eventually anyway. course i wouldn't mess with anything outside legalities...so i called VM explaining problem...again. Few days ago, tech told me to go outside...and that worked. so my husband was considering getting a house antenna. but then i made call to him cell-to-cell (cell to land not a prob) from shopping center down the road and msg left was garbled. he was with me but had cell off. so, again, i'm disturbed that i'll be stranded somewhere unable to reach people on cells. VM tech today listened to my grievance, checked the area and said reception good. had me turn off, take out and reinsert battery and turn back on. still no indication of a signal, or one mark at best. so she said it was software problem and is sending me a new phone. i have my doubts that will resolve prob, but i'll try anything. this signal issue does seem to be draining the battery. i noticed earlier after talking for less than two hrs with my mom (connecting to her landline) that battery was half drained, so called VM at that time, and they sent me new battery. haven't even tried it though cuz the garbled call issue took over. tmi? sorry.

Actually, you gave plenty of information, which helps explains your situation in detail. Not enough information makes it difficult to understand an issue.

It could be a bad phone, so try out the new phone VM sends to you. I would keep contacting VM's customer service if the new phone still has issues.

If they cannot resolve the issue with a working phone, then I would demand a refund for the initial price you paid for the phone.

The one nice thing with prepaid is that you are not stuck in a contract, so if VM does not resolve your issue within a month, you are not obligated to pay for the next months service, and you can cancel at any time if their service does not work for you.

However, I would still demand a refund on the price of the phone if they cannot resolve your issues.

Good luck.

i have had the phone since dec 2011, but have only recently had cause to use it more often, so am discovering these shortages. replacement phone arrived today, already! this should be fun! not. thanks to all for your input.

well, i have the new phone. some minor upgrades, but no improvement with reception. having done some research, i'm learning that's just the nature of the cell phone beast...especially in a hilly beachy area. so i go outside to yak.

oops...meant to start a new thread not a reply......having trouble adding secondary e-mail accounts to lg optimus v. i log into my account and the incoming and outgoing settings default, but can't see my info or send mail. looked up on my providers site "droid" settings which are slightly different but still no luck. called VM tech and he was reading from manual to no avail. said he'd have someone with knowledge call me back but that hasn't happened. i can live w/o add'l accounts, but if it's possible to access them, i'd like to.

I have two e-mail accounts on the phone. I use Dolphin HD browser. I set the URL of the e-mail account into what they call a speed dial. All I have to do is click on the speed dial and I'm right where I want to be. I currently have ten speed dials. This might make it easier to get to your email account.

i e-mailed my email provider help and they gave me incoming and outgoing settings. with these i was able to see inbox only. so they then provided me with secondary settings and had me select "require sign in" field under outgoing settings and my mail was able to be sent. however, i tried sending an e-mail to it from my other online email account, and it did not appear on my phone. by this point they said to contact my phone provider. while i was discussing matter with VM, the e-mail showed up....thirty+ minutes later. so, after two days i do have ability to send and receive emails on my phone. eureka. i was told that account can't be synced...only the first email account can be, but not a problem. and i can't see prior sent history (though i can see inbox history), but, again, not a problem.

Semi-hijack. I've had basically the opposite experience as the OP. My V seems to work everywhere I go in Central Florida or Raleigh-Durham. I'm in these metro areas most of the time and the V is one of the clearest phones I have used. YMMV.
