Glad to Be Here!

We are truck drivers so we have to have phones that are incredibly dependable. Call quality is a must and dropping calls can cost us loads. We travel in the Mid West to North East - not primarily in 4G areas.

We keep in touch with family (3 daughters, 12 grandkids) through phone, email, texting, emails, etc. Like so many in this day and age, our phones are our lifeline to all that matters most to us!

My husband purchased a Droid 2 about a year ago after giving up his Blackberry. He's had some issues with it, but finding this forum should be a great aid in solving some of those problems.

I still have a LG "un"smart phone and have been researching for days on which of the new smartphones will best meet my needs. I've gotten used to Jim's Droid, but it drives me crazy - he calls it the 'phone I love to hate'.

I've narrowed the search down to the Samsung Charge and the Droid X2 - leaning towards the Charge. So I have lots of questions and hope to find some guidance in choosing functionality over glitz.

One review says the call quality of the Charge sucks, the next one says Verizon put out an update fix that includes call quality improvement... We do need good call quality, on the road, but also at home since we live in a very rural area. Jim's Droid 2's internet works at home, but he has to go out on the deck to make and receive calls :(

The camera is important to me - I like the 8 MP; have not been able to figure out the benefits of a front facing so don't know if that's even a benefit.

I don't like Jim's Droid 2 virtual keyboard - there is no way to back space without deleting. I've heard there are other qwertys that can be downloaded. True?

Can the Charge be set to 3G when we are not in a 4G area?

I've watched many, many YouTube reviews on both - including on Tech Whiz vs Moto Blur and truthfully I am still not sure which is better/best. Also have read countless reviews and it seems to go in circles.

Any help, direction, would be very much appreciated; seems like the best place to get answers is from people using the product!

Thanks in advance - now I'm off to browse the forum!

Hi Sue,

I'm glad you signed up. You sound like a wonderful and knowledgeable person! I honestly don't about a Charge fix. It's a powerful phone, though. I had both the charge and x2 in my hand in the store recently and I can tell you that they both have amazing screens, but the x2 has no 4g. I'd also ask in the sections, they'll be glad to help you. :)

Thanks, I spent a lot of time last evening wandering through the posts and adding favorites so I can find things easier. I copied any info I could find that would be a help later on. Still leaning pretty heavily toward the Charge...
