Just how scratch resistant is the glass used on the Samsung Galaxy SIII? My old iPhone used a glass called gorilla glass,and it was very scratch resistant.
 
On GSIII the Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is used to protect the screen but don't know who resistant it is. From so far people have not good experience with the gs3 screen. I also want to know how scratch resistant it is.

I am not really worried just thought i would ask about it.:rolleyes:
 
In over a year of having the s3 and no screen protector the glass is the only part still perfect. Ive been in the habit for years now of using my left pocket only for my phone. No keys, coins etc :thumbup:

This is also my habit and my two year old iPhone left pocket with nothing else,and never got scratched. I am not a fan of putting plastic on my screens, none on two iPads and none on two Samsung Notes. Will do the same for my Galaxy SIII.
I did buy a Mophie Juice Pack for it and it's a good protection case and gives an extra battery.;)

The S3 uses Gorilla Glass 2.. it's supposed to be stronger and more scratch resistant than original gorilla glass. That being said, it is rather fragile since the screen is so large. The bigger the glass, the easier it breaks. I wouldn't worry too much about a screen protector but some kind of impact protection is a very good idea.

After using screen protectors (both cheap and premium) on a few of my devices over the years I came to the realization that I was losing out on the niceness of a great-feeling glass touchscreen on a $500 device by putting a 2 cent piece of plastic on it as a barrier. It really is ridiculous if you think about it. It'd be like wrapping a brand new Porsche up in saran wrap so birds don't poop on it. Sort of... but you get my point.

If you're smart with keeping the phone by itself in a pocket then you generally don't have to worry about it getting scratched. They don't magically get scratched, they get scratched as a result of certain behaviors and bad habits. Just have a decent case that absorbs the shock of a potential fall and allows you to lay the phone on its face without the glass touching the surface and you should be good to go.
 
Have been using a few devices since 09. Longest I've had a screen protector on any was about 5min on my OG Droid. ;)
No scratches on any of them. But, like Rx said, sand and fine particles are your biggest problems.
 
I used to have the screen naked but the oleophobic coating wore off, now the screen gets too sticky after you touch it, and it's more prone to fingerprints. I can't live without protectors, now.
 
If i was gona use a protector it would have to be one of the glass ones that cover the whole screen. the plastic ones are horrible

I like having the extra backup battery,and the interface plug of the Galaxy protected and I am just interfacing with the power charger plug of the mophie case. The fact is it's the same weight as my old iPhone and it had a standard large battery. Also I like having something to really hold on to.:)
 
I don't know about the rest of them, but I bought a Zagg at Radio Shack and the clerk put it on for me. It's on so perfectly that you can't tell there is a protector there. So I guess the trick is to buy a good one and have somebody with experience put in on for you.

I just picked up my lovely new s3 today at best buy. Gotta say I love it. But I did find out that best buy DOES price match Amazon online prices so I got an otter box commuter series for 27 bucks. It's not too bulky and is serious protection. No need for a screen protector. So. ... anyway hello new forum. I'm coming from the s2..

Lol, I think that must mean I am the opposite of smart because i keep mine in my pocket by itself and the screen protector i swapped yesterday look like Freddy Kruger's sharpening block. That, or I am magic. :-)
 
Never had one scratch on my Desire HD in the 2 years I had it and it took some beating, my S3 has a few scratches on it and both times I've noticed them it wasn't due to dropping it.

Not really moaning here, just making an observation on the quality of the Glass, it's not as great as I originally thought it would be. (I also have a phone only pocket rule :D)
 
When i used the AC forums when the s3 had just been launched, there were loads of people reporting scratches and they were all from north america. The conclusion i came to was that a bad batch of glass got used for the d2 variants early on or something but youre on the i9300 :confused:
 
I was wondering if I should put a protector on it like on me Samsung ga laxy s advance. I now have the s3 for a week and I really like the feel of the screen, so I'm afraid that this awesome zsmooth feel of the screen will dissappear with a screen protector. I have a flip case and I also have a pocket where only my phone goes in :)

Any experiences here with scratches? It's not that I'm taking it on the beach or something.
