The variance is based on personal preference.

Sure, it's not that we prohibit public posting of email addresses - it's just safer not to, to prevent them falling into the wrong hands.

I dont get it tho... we all have to add each other.. thekarens added me to their circle but that doesnt mean I can see everybody's posts so its kind of a one sided ..thing

google+ is so confusing

It is not confusing but it is not exactly like yahoogroups where a post from any one member of the group can be viewed by all members. So if any of us want our own circle to grow, may be we can welcome any new friend that one of us adds with a welcome post on our circle. For example, if I add you to my LGBT friends circle, then I welcome you to my circle by posting a welcome note on my circle (something like "Welcome to my LGBT friends circle"). This post is then visible to all the friends in my LGBT circle, who in turn can add you to their circles and so on ....
