Gmail app not updating on new tablet

I just got a Galaxy Tab S6 for Christmas (yay!). Having fun installing apps, I noticed that I cannot get the latest version of the Gmail app to install on the tablet. My phone has a gmail version from November, but the version on the tablet is from June. If it was a special "tablet version" it would make more sense, but it looks the same as on my phone and not tablet friendly at all, so it seems to be just an older version of the phone app. Very weird and very irritating, because the latest update on my phone has google meet integrated with gmail which is neat and I would like that on my tablet.
Does anyone have a clue as to what can be causing this? I mean, my tablet has a later Android version and more memory than my phone, so it can't be a technical limitation.

what do you mean you cannot get the gmail update to install? what happens? in the play store does it show that gmail has an update?

In the play store it says the app is updated already, but the version information says it is an olderversion than what is installed on my phone. Also, it has the old Gmail icon, while my phone gmail app has the new multicolored icon.
I just would like to have all functionality of the latest version.

To my most limited knowledge, I believe the Gmail app is a totally different variant depending on the type of device, as I've encountered the same issue on my android devices.

yep as said above by @Dannydet gmail and other google apps are tailored to a specific device. my guess is that they have not finished updating gmail for google meets yet for your device. i would think that it will come soon though.

you mean you rooted the device? what os did you go to?

Different devices, on my tablet it has the envelope with the "M" in transparent, on my cell the "M" is more solid and the mail has blended in with the swipe down menu, it really depends on what you have.
