Gmail app vs. HTC mail w/HTC sense

Can you have (2) exchange accounts? I have my work (exchange) and want to add my GMAIL as described above, however it only gives me POP, APOP and IMAP for selections for adding a new account.

Pretty sure i remember reading that you can only set up one exchange account in the user manual.

Just with attachments worked more reliably in HTC mail. plus, today i realized i had some emails disappear from my phone. theyre all there online, just disappeared on the phone. Might have to do with conversations in gmail? I think the ones that went bye bye were replies to a previous email, and theyre all grouped on web based gmail.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The reasoning for only permitting one exchange account is because you can't have two sets of security policies for the same device.

You may have to settle with IMAP gmail.

Question for you guys - when you are setting up an IMAP account are you able to get notifications when your phone is in sleep?

This mail thing is throwing me a bit - sorry for the longish post, maybe somebody can help me out.

It seems as though I have 3 places to check my email - this HTC Sense Widget, a "mail" icon and a "gmail" icon. I think the widget is designed well and would use it, but I don't understand how to flick through emails. Does it not work like that?

Does it only show the most recent email in the widget preview and then once you tap, it launches you into HTC Mail? It would be pretty sweet if you could flick through the mail a la "deck of cards" style.

Same goes for the SMS widget... I wish I could just tap or scroll through the messages on the widget instead of launching into a whole window.

I don't particularly care about when I get my emails - I think checking every 5 minutes is plenty. I just want everything to sync nicely - when I delete something from the HTC Mail will it delete from my gmail inbox? If I want to label something, can I do that in HTC Mail?

Maybe somebody should just tell me to use one or the other and I'll do that... too many choices

For the widgets, you have to flick Upwards, place your finger in the center of the widget and move upwards to flick thru email.

if you have it setup as activesync, yes when u delete from HTC Mail you will delete from the online version as well as any other clients u use (IE on ur desktop computer) that are setup as activesync.

I don't belive HTC mail can do GMAIL labels.

I'm growing on HTC mail of Gmail app ^^

I'm also having this problem.

Some attachments open fine, others dont, u just click the download button and it flashes to the "message waiting to be downloaded" clock and doesnt do anything.

I just open up gmail, refresh my folder and download it through that, but would love to be able to download attachments from exchange htc gmail.

Any help?

I had this same problem using exchange, but when I switched it to IMAP I can now see attachments fine.

I need help setting up my school e-mail, which is operated by gmail. I went to the help section, but it didn't really help... it works on my ipod touch, though.

Here's what I'm doing:

username@csu.school.edu
password

imap.gmail.com or pop.gmail.com or imap.csu.school.edu or pop.csu.school.edu

SSL

and I've tried different combinations in both the gmail app and the mail app.

Try without SSL checked.

No one has answered if you can integrate multiple email accounts into one screen so that you don't have to select 5 different email accounts to view new messages. Anyone have any idea??

I would love some help on this as well. You would think this is possible using HTC mail. I'm simply looking to open one folder to view all of my emails from various accounts. This worked on the Moto Droid. Am I missing an option somewhere?

Yes. You can also asign a different Notification ringtone for emails. I am using the Google branded Gmail program ... if you go to the Inbox window, then select the Menue button > Settings ... make sure Notifications is checked, and select the Ringtone you want. Make sure to do the same for the HTC branded Gmail program, but turn notification off on it. This will keep you from getting two Notifications for each email. The programs work seperatly. Personally, I use the Google branded version. I think it allows for a much easier navigation through labels/folder, and moving emails to label/folders. Remember, the Menu button is your friend. If you can not find a setting, hit the Menu button (when in Gmail).

Just create a new master Gmail account, and forward all 5 of your separate accounts to the master account. Then pair your phone with the master account. That way you keep all 5 separate accounts for other purposes, but you'll have 1 combined inbox on the phone. You could add a label to each forwarded email so you know which account it originated from.

Its just an idea. I'm sure there are drawbacks too (e.g., your sent mail from the phone will have the master account as the sending email address).

Thanks for the response. Although there must be an option somewhere to simply consolidate all emails into one folder, right? It definitely worked that way on the Moto Droid. I wish I had my old Droid on me to see what the setup is... Thoughts anyone?

I just stopped using the HTC sense email yesterday, and started using GMail unred count one.

Besides giving you the unread email number the app seems to alert you alot faster of incoming emails than the HTC sense one would.

Anyone else find that to be the case?

Also I like that it doesn't add "From your Verizon Wireless phone" like the HTC Sense.

That's the default signature. You can change it to whatever you want. That's one of the first things I do with any smartphone is change the stupid default signature.

Am I the only one that thinks the HTC mail app is pretty decent? I do like using the gmail app for gmail though, but that's really a work email vs. personal email preference. The gmail app can't zoom on emails like the HTC client, which is lame, but I'm sure they will fix that.

I've got the Touchdown trial installed and it's slightly more useful, but certainly not worth $20 to me.

My major gripes about the HTC mail client are:

1. No delete button on the main reading screen. WTH? They put reply-all instead of delete. Lame. Touchdown has a delete button so big win here.

2. No way to get to a calendar view. Why? If I want to the calendar, I have to go to the full calendar app. Lame. Touchdown wins again, although the Touchdown calendar shows ONLY the activesync calendar (HTC mixes the gmail calendar and the activesync calendar...nice).

Gmail seems to have an issue displaying external links - at least on my phone. Sometimes they're active and I can click on them and sometimes they appear to be plain text and I can't. And, this is from the same source - such as replies to topics from this forum. Puzzling.

So, I keep HTC Mail around to view those messages as it doesn't appear to have this issue.

I've had a similar experience. Got an email on GMail app and it was missing attachment. Sender sent a second email to anther person with me as CC and the attachment was there and opened just fine. Weird....

I've just switching to trying out the latest version of K-9. It handles push email just fine for Gmail and another IMAP account of mine. It does a better job rendering some emails that confuse the heck out of HTC mail. And it supports push email that HTC mail does not.
