I notice that there is an updated version of gmail in the market (2.3.4.1) but the one on my phone is 2.3.2. Should I update?

Sure why not. You can look at the details and see why changes they've made in the release. It may not apply to your phone, but having the latest version of an app doesn't hurt.

Yea..I usually just automatically update, but I noticed that this was pulled from the market when first released, then put back on a couple days later..seems to be ok now

Why not? Worse thing is that Google will have all your contacts details and addresses. Oh wait **** they already do....
