Help Gmail Attachments

I have a pdf file on my storage card that I would like to attach to an outgoing email, but when I click on the attachments icon it takes my to my photos and does not offer any other choices. Does anyone know how to attach a document?
 
Super! Turns out the file is too large (it's the Incredible Manual), but that will help a lot for other files.
