Gmail contacts added automatically from emails

Can someone please help me with this...I have my Sprint Hero and I love it, but this is driving me crazy.
Everytime I send an e-mail whether on my Hero or just regular Gmail on my computer, that e-mail address gets added to my contact list.
This is very frustrating as I just went through and deleted about 150 different email addresses I don't need including about 75-100 craigslist ads.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the contacts app you can go into settings and choose which lists you see in contacts. I sync with outlook, so I only have those contacts in there. I have the Google contacts hidden. I know what your talking about, it sucks, but it does auto-add on every freakin email. So, I hid all them.
 
Go into contacts, go to groups. Menu - Sync groups.

Remove the check from Sync all contacts.
 
You're a life saver! I'm in the process of migrating all my contacts from my Palm to my N1 and have been wondering how I could get it to only show certain contact groups.

Sure would be nice if there were more easily-discoverable manuals and FAQs for the N1 / Android.

are you absolutely sure this will work? if it does, thank you in advance! that crap was REALLY frustrating to scroll through your contact list and see all those anonymous email address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
