Help Gmail contacts only syncing one way

I can add a contact on the desktop computer and it shows on my phone right away, however adding to my phone it never shows up in gmail. What gives?

After adding on my phone I hit the menu button and select VIEW. There I have GOOGLE selected however anything I add goes under PHONE. When adding a contact there is no way to select if I want the contacted added under local phone or gmail. It seems impossible to add a contact to gmail from my phone. Anyone know what could be wrong?

I'm having similar issues. I did notice, however, that if you go into the People app and choose "Add Contact" you can change the Contact Type from Phone to Gmail.

I just see no toggle for it on my existing "Phone" contacts. I don't remember having this issue on my old Eris either.
