Help gmail contacts sync to desire

hi,
so i am trying to get my contacts set up once and for all.

i have synced my phone to gmail contacts
then to test i went into gmail and deleted a contact
then did the sync again but the contact in question was still on my phone

what gives?
and i have synced the desire 5 times in the last 24 hours but no change.


any ideas or do i not get how sync works?

ps, is it possible to choose which gmail contacts 'group' to sync as i really don't want EVERY SINGLE contact in my e-m list.

are all the contacts of type "google"?

Go to people>View and see whats ticked...

Also in a contact, if you edit it (or maybe even view it) it should have a field called "Type" and it will say Google, phone or sim

i unchecked the PHONE contacts and that person i deleted was indeed gone from the gContacts.
so now i just need to put all the info into the google contacts.

is there a way to take my PHONE contacts and put that info into the google contacts info?

Are the phone contacts exactly how you want the google contacts to be? if so, delete the google contacts, export the phone contacts to SD card. then re import from SD card and select type "google" this will then sync back to google.
