GMAIL doesn't work well

Yes I did read all the other posts about this. None of those suggestions made a difference.

So to test I sent myself an email and had the GMAIL app open on the ERIS.

It sometimes give me a conversation notice but does not actually download the email to the app for a long time. And then only if I force a refresh.

I have full 3G where I am so that can't be it. Also, I do no have a task killer and I keep mobile on all the time.

The ERIS doeseverything else very well with the exception of e-mail.:(

This may not be the most effective way to get it back, but I am pretty sure that just restarting the phone will bring it (and a bunch of other processes--essentially everything) back.

Nothing has been accidentally "killed". The e-mail app is simply not very good.

Unfortunately since it is not reliable I can't really use it much.

Make sure in settings that your background data is checked as well as the mobile network always on. At one time, I wasn't getting my email delivered because the mobile network was shutting itself off.

i have background, auto sync on and always on mobile unchecked. the gtalk process has to be running and it will get the emails. I forget the interval at which it checks but it will work.

I was from the understanding that Gmail doesn't "check" for email. There are no intervals. The server "pushes" it once something is received. It's much different from the "mail" app.

Also, if the "always on mobile" is unchecked, the phone will shut off the data on some networks. That's what was happening to mine after the phone would go to sleep. It would cause me to miss notifications.

This is one of those reasons why killing apps is not a good thing. I have been using my Eris for two months with perfect functionality with my Gmail account. In fact, while at work where I also have my Gmail open on a computer, my Eris notifies me of new mail before it shows up on the computer.

Well then there is something wrong with my ERIS. As I mentioned earlier a did a test with GMAIL open on the phone. Sent myself an email from my home PC and it never came through on the phone.

Saw it right away on GOOGLE however.
