Help Gmail has 300+ email contacts I don't want on phone

How do I keep these from auto traveling to my phone, I want the phone to keep a phonebook, one feature from my simple phone I don't want to change. At least that what I believe now.

You should be able to go into your people (contacts) list and select which accounts to retrieve contacts from via the menu button.

If you go into 'Settings' then 'Data Synchronization' then 'Google' you can choose what gets synced, just uncheck 'Contacts'

Open your App drawer, open the My Account app. Click the account you would like to adjust the sync settings.

Also be careful about deleting contacts when they are linked together. You may need to unlink and then delete what you don't want.
