Lurker
Hi,

I am new to the forum and new to android so please bear with me and apologies if my question has already been answered somewhere else but I could not find it.

A few days ago I made the jump from iphone to Android. I'm not the proud owner of a Samsung Note 3 and I'm enjoying it!

I have a question around my gmail account. In the accounts settings I have added my google account to the phone and enabled syncing of e-mails and contacts etc.

I have also added my gmail account to the e-mail accounts settings to sync e-mails.

When I get a new e-mail I get a notification alert. If I swipe down to reveal notifications and click on the google accounts alert (a letter with a large M in it), I get taken to a very rich looking version of gmail with colour coded boxed next to the e-mails etc.

However, I can only seem to get to this via a new e-mail though notifications.

If I click on the e-mail app I can see all my gmail accounts but not in this rich format - just dull grey etc.

I have tried the following:

1. Remove the email account and just keep the google account set up syncing e-mails. However - again I can only see my e-mails when a new one arrives. If I click on the e-mail app - there are no e-mail accounts set up so no e-mails in there.

2. Tried setting up the e-mail account as gmail and then googlemail - just in case this made a difference - but it doesn't seem to.

I guess my underlying question is - how do I get to the rich version of my gmail every time - without it needing to be via the notification center?

Cheers

I think I understand your issue. Your phone came with two separate email apps installed. One is called "Email" and the to other is the Gmail app. I think that you are opening the "Email" app instead of Gmail.

^^ That ^^

If you go to your app drawer you will find the Gmail app. Press and hold this until the screen changes then drop it onto your home screen. You could also press and hold the other e-mail app icon then drag it up to the x Remove bar to remove it from your home screen.

Thanks thirstyprirate - you are right. The e-mail app sits on the default home screen, whereas the gmail app was hidden within a folder called google within apps.

I've deleted my gmail account from the email accounts now and moved the gmail app to the home screen.

Thanks for your help!

SiempreTuna - thanks to you too - your post must have come in whilst I was replying to thirstypirate!
