Help Gmail & Message List

So I have gmail, and I get the gmail message in my message list when I get a new email, and I also get a message for new email. So it's doubling my email messages (message application & gmail application). Does this make sense? It does in my head. Anyways, does anyone know how to fix this so I only get my gmail messages? I really hope this makes sense to someone.

BTW, love my new DX. I was the first appt at my local Best Buy. Their Mobile Store Manager helped me, and he thought it was a great phone (he had a 3GS).

Did you set your gmail account up as a google account an email account or both? If you set it up as an email account delete it and just use the google account.
