Help Gmail Not Retrieving

Newbie
Using the stock Gmail app with my X, it doesn't seem to retrieve emails as often as I'd like. Is there any way to do this or am I going to have to go with a dedicated app? I like the stock one because it allows me to move mail into folders.
 
I have the same problem. It worked when I first got it, now it doesn't refresh at all unless I manually do it. I have not disabled push notifications either.
