Help Gmail not syncing

Morning All,

I have a Desire HD running CM7 which I first rooted a few weeks ago. I have noticed in the last week or so that my GMail has not been syncing. If I go into the GMail app there are no new messages listed, no notifications yet on my Nexus 7 or the GMail website there are clearly a number of new messages.

The syncing options appear to be correct:

Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> google account -> sync gmail ticked (among others)

I cleared the apps data and restarted it last night, and that appeared to help briefly but overnight its reverted back. I don't think this is related to the rooting as its been syncing happily for a while. That said, I did try an ICS ROM about a week ago but had to revert to CM7 as it was unstable..

I've googled this and seen others having the same problem, but no magic solution. Has anyone got any thoughts? I guess a factory reset might be next, although I was hoping to avoid that..

Having done some experimenting (including clearing the Gmail app cache, and re-installing the app) the thing that seems to have done the trick was deleting my Google account and re-adding it. Took an hour or so for any emails to appear once I did that all seems to be well. See how long it lasts..

Not sure if it's related, but I heard that there was a Google server error , preventing access to things like Google Now...
