Help Gmail/stock email question

JenDawn1

Newbie
I was supposed to get my phone Friday but I didn't get it until yesterday. Talk about a long wait! It was worth it though. This thing is awesome. I love it.
My question is how do I get Gmail to work on the stock email app? I want to be able to use the S-pen functions through Gmail. When I go through the steps it says my log in information isn't correct. I would understand if Gmail doesn't work on it but I hope it does. I apologize if this has been answered already. I did a search and came up with 200 pages.

When you add an account it says at the bottom of the new account screen something like "for gmail use the gmail app". I know that some folks around here have done it, I tried and got the same result that you did.

I have reverted to Yahoo mail as I like having my folders, which I cannot figure out how to get with the stock mail.

Good luck, congrats on the phone,

But I don't wanna use the Gmail app :)
Thanks for the reply. I might have to revert back to yahoo though I would love to tweak it so I can use Gmail on stock.

As with any email account, try obtaining the POP3 or IMAP, server and security settings for gmail, and add the account information accordingly into the default mail app.

Instead of using IMAP or POP3 on gmail, I would use the Exchange push mail server m.google.com

When you set up your mail account, pick the custom setup instead of the easy mode and choose Exchange and use the gmail exchange server "m.google.com" and use your google account user name and password.

I just did it.

Open the email client, in the Choose an account to set up choose Others, put in your email address and password then click next.

It worked after I turned off the two step verification I set up for email security. Woooohooo!

I could, but you know the old saying, "setup a man's email...teach a man how to fix his own email...". Do you just need to view existing folders which are not being displayed? What are the account specifics? Also, if I resolve this, I only drink "Trappistes Rochefort 10".
;)

Just caught this thread. I've been using the stock email app for Gmail since day one. Using imap settings I get all my folders as well.

I use the stock app as it's got reflow text on it whereas the gmail app only has pinch and zoom.

A nice dark Belgian beer. Great beer, can't drink a lot of them though, a litle heavy (but very good) & over 11% alcohol. :)

I am trying to view existing folder from my Yahoo account which are not being displayed in stock. The account is a ####@ verizon.net address with yahoo as the vehicle. The folders show up fine in the Yahoo app (which is so boring and non customizeable) but not in the stock app. (or other apps I have tried, Aqua, K9, Enhanced email.)

Thanks in advance....stay thirsty my friend...

"10" is best with a nice filet, or burger...no longer "as enjoyable" since becoming vegetarian, but I digress.

I have both yahoo (historically problematic inside the Android universe, usually frustrating one to resort to the yahoo app), and Verizon accounts, but manage the accounts separately on my phones. Why not just set up Verizon as a separate account on the Note, and utilize the "combined inbox"?

Hell, I run a Yahoo account, a gmail account both separate. I guess if I want the folders I am stuck with Yahoo. Not a huge deal, as Yahoo is timely and rarely has problems. The app is just pretty vanilla.

I coach and have so many group emails and folders set up I really need the access to the folders.

:smokingsomb:

Yeah, but if the Verizon folders are the ones not being displayed, disassociate it from Yahoo, and add it as its own acct. in the Android mail app....same for Yahoo.
