Help Gmail syncing

When I look at Accounts and Sync under my Google account there is a red exclamation point by Sync contacts and no matter what I do it goes back to a red exclamation point. The following is the error that shows

"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."

Read the thread a few above this. There is a fix. Mine was as simple as clearing data under "contacts storage."
