Help gmail WITHOUT contacts?

Hi-
I'm just setting my t-bolt up. I was wondering, is there a way to get my gmail on the phone without all of my contacts being imported into the phone itself?

I don't want to scroll through every person I've ever sent an email to each time I want to make a phone call.

Not sure about the actual import (I'd have to look more...I haven't yet). But there is always the option of just not showing your Google Account contacts altogether. Not sure (again) if that would still kep them from showing up on your suggested contacts list when dialing, but might? I dunno, the only thing I use my google account for, IS for backing up my contacts.

Hm. It's possible.
I just know that some other folks, on other android phones - as soon as they set up their gmail, their contacts list was automatically synced with everything in their gmail, without asking them first. Just wondering if there's a way I can keep them separate..

I was just thinking....when you add the google account to the phone, it should give you an option of what you want to sync (contacts, calendar, etc)..you should be able to just leave them blank, and it shouldn't bring them at all anyway.. at least, I am pretty sure it gave me that option when setting up the account on the phone.

Menu, settings, accounts and sync, select your google account, un-check the contacts option.

now this will get rid of ALL of your contacts. not sure why you are seeing everyone you have ever sent an e-mail to. i have my contacts synced and i am only seeing the people i want to see. only on a very rare occasion will i see all those e-mails. and it is usually on the back end of an app (sharing app info with a contact will show everyone) but it only shows people i want when viewing the contact/people app.

Ok- i just added an account from the mail screen, rather then adding account when first setting up the phone. It didn't import my gmail contacts which is good. I do know other people with non-bolt android phones that had their phone contacts mixed and auto-populated with their gmail contacts.
