Help Gmail won't stop it

Ok. I just got this phone a few hours ago. Here's my problem:

My friend has a Gmail account. When he found out my phone had a Gmail application, he wanted to try it out. He signed in, checked his mail, said "Sweet", then closed the application.

After a while, I decided to try it out myself. I opened Gmail and immediately went to my friend's inbox. I didn't want that. I've spent a while now trying to figure this out.

How in the world do you sign out of the Gmail application?

Factory reset is the only option I'm aware of.

Tap the Applications Tab and then tap Settings
SD Card & Phone Storage
Tap Factory Data Reset > Reset Phone
