Help GMail wont sync

When I try to sync my contacts with gmail it says:

"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"

It's been saying this for over a week now, any ideas why it's doing it and what I can do to try and fix it??

Remove that Gmail account and try adding it again.

Did you ever fix that as I have same problem, but if I need to remove gmail account it said I have to full rest phone and lose all data as gmail account is the main (first) one on phone?I own HTC Desire

how much space do you have on your phone? if it drops below about 15MB sync won't work and I don't think the error you get tells you this is the cause.

try clearing the Gmail data Cashe

I had this same thing. Turned out to be connected to Facebook and so removing the Facebook account and the re logging in to it again sorted this problem for me.
