Gnex available only to new vzw customers!??

TopherG

Newbie
Just walked into a vzw store and was told that I could buy the gnex tomorrow only by adding a line or if I was new to vzw! I told them I was going to buy at full retail and they said they are not allowed to sell it like that... ?

Dunno why you've been told that. Rep I've been in contact with knows I am up for NE2 and called to say "see you tomorrow".

I don't know either... I was told the same from 5 different reps at the vzw store at the Empire Center in Burbank, CA

I am going in my VZW store tomorrow and purchasing off contract so hopefully this isn't true. I can't imagine this would be though. Why wouldn't they sell it to everyone. It makes no sense.

Thats what I'm saying! I don't understand why they would tell me that.... I'm going to bestbuy right now and seeing what they say. The vzw guy told me that I should just order online because they wouldn't sell it to me at retail price... Stupid!

Let me know what they say. I'm very curious.

I was told the same thing, that I had to use an upgrade on the account or add a line. I was like why? I was a verizon sub site and he said cause they have limited so thats how their store has to sell them, I wonder if it is a way for verizon to keep you another 2 years. New strategy.

I have an added comment to this. Why would verizon want to only make maybe 50 bucks on the phone versus if someone was to buy at $650.. Seems odd.

Because they make way more when they extend contracts. They phone will be sold at retail. These reps were just idiots

The choice is actually: make $650 today; or make $300 today, and another $720 over the next 2 years just in data charges ($30/mo X 24), plus line charges, insurance, accessories, yadda yadda yadda.

I stopped into one of the authorized VZW retailers after work today and asked her if she could hold one for me and she punched up my account to make sure I was eligible for an upgrade (which I am) and said "I'll put your name on one for tomorrow I'll see you at 10AM"

It may be a store by store thing. The more accts they open the more money they get.

Buy it online tonight. I'm sure it's fine.

If that is the case I will probably snap in the store, after that's will go to Costco and see if they will sell it to me st full retail which I believed they advertised as $649.

If they dont sell it to me either I will go back to the corporate store, or possibly possibly try online t see if the full retail phone can be added to cart.

If I get denied I will cancel my Verizon account and go back to AT&T and get something else

After all the misinformation and issues and BS that has been flying around in circles here and everywhere else surrounding this phone, I 'spose it made sense that more misinformation had to appear somewhere after the launch was made official.

I was in a corporate store this afternoon and made clear I was upgrading, they told me it would not be an issue and there would be no problems.

So I'm guessing that unless they decided to somehow screw the pooch yet again, Verizon isn't relegating this release to new customers. But that's just one man's opinion.

If you are wanting off contract, but they make you do that:

Open a new line of service and buy the phone ($155 - $299 depending on where you buy it)
Cancel the line of service ($350 ETF)
Profit (spent $505 - $649)

They did this with the Iphone 4S at the store I go to. But, I'm buying my Nexus at full retail and the sales person knows this and set me up an appt to buy it at 9 am. Maybe its based on inventory....weird.

For that matter the extra line is only $10 a month over 24 months that's $240 over the life of the contract. So by your logic if you take $299 + $240 = $539 if you just keep the line active...

rep who is saving one for me called to tell me he already checked my account, for which i had the upgrade date moved up via 611 CS...i'm good. rep on the phone also said i'm fine to get the nexus.

it's not new customers only.
