Root Go to Latest Gingerbread or Stick with Rooted 2.2?

Yes... this might be a monumental, earth shattering decision!

Do I stick with recently rooted 2.2 or go to the latest Gingerbread on my Dinc. I rooted my phone with the great instructions found here on this sticky: "How To] Root 2.3.4/downgrade and Get S-off." I now have 2.2 rooted, and seemingly working fine. A little more background: I immediately started receiving the Gingerbread push. After trying to ignore it, I finally gave in. Instead of updating like it said it was going to do, it immediately went back to 2.2, said I was up to date with no updates available. So playing around with it, trying to get back to Gingerbread (rooted), I bricked it, or so I thought!

Thanks to Scotty and SDraw, after a day or so of panic, I was able to get the phone working again... back to rooted 2.2 However, I've noticed that the keyboard I've grown accustomed to, the Gingerbread keyboard, does not "stick", after a while, I always have to re-select it in the keyboard settings. Also, I realize that there are probably some other enhancements with the latest Gingerbread.

I know all the answers I need are probably found on this forum, and I've read through a lot these past few days and will continue to do so! However, many of the threads are a little dated by tech advancement standards (after all, this phone is a relic, right???) and contain some problems people have encountered. Also, some of the older links no longer work. I remember seeing one post that indicates I might be able to go to the latest Gingerbread with just one ROM.

So... I'm just looking for the latest, easiest, most reliable, way to get to GB (rooted). Or are there those that think I might be best sticking with 2.2? BTW... my phone is S-Off. One thing is sure, thanks to the fine folks on this board, I'm not exactly terrified anymore of bricking the phone! If you're bored, or have had similar problems, you can see my trials, tribulations, and triumph on the last page of the above mentioned thread. In the end, the solution was not in the least bit complicated.

Thanks for reading all of this. I tend to talk too much! Your comments, and assistance if possible, are greatly appreciated!! :)

maybe you should upgrade your GB :D and then flash your root with odin? i guess patience is all you need ^^

Its very easy to upgrade to gingerbread...you just need to flash the gingerbread rom and you can also optionally flash the gingerbread radio.

If you want to ensure a problem free install you will want to make sure you do a complete data wipe before flashing... which in turn means you will want to completely back up your data first.... if you look at the top of this forum, there is an "all things root " sticky guide with links to instructions on how to properly install a rom and a guide to using "titanium backup". I'll post back later with links if you can't find them :)

Odin is only used on Samsung phones.

I flashed INC_OTA_4.06.605.3_rooted_deodexv from this link: [ROM] Official INC OTA 4.06.605.3 - xda-developers. All seemed to go well. The phone booted with 4.06.605.3. I restored all my apps with Titanium Backup Pro.

However, there seems to be a problem with the market. When I try to open it at times, it immediately force closes. When the market does open and I update an app, the app usually updates fine, but immediately after, the market force closes. While I haven't tried all other apps on the phone, the ones I have tried seem to work fine.

I have cleared the Market cache in settings/applications. There has been no data to clear. I also set privileges with ROM Manager and that didn't change anything. One other thing I noticed, but perhaps that's just a function of the 4.06.605.3, is that I get the Location Warning every time I boot up. Might flashing the newer Gingerbread version help? (Links to ROMs etc. are appreciated!)

I will continue to search for some answers/tips. But I really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. Thanks!! :)

P.S. Other Google apps work fine, such as search, maps, etc.

Try this one:
[ROM] ◄ Stock Plus ► v3.01 11/22/2011 Based off of New OTA - xda-developers

Sdraw... thank you very much!!! Flash went without a hitch. Market works. And this ROM looks awesome! I can't wait to check out the modifications.. I've just seen a few so far, and I love 'em!

Thank you again, for all your help. This "playing with my phone" is changing from "panic inducing" to "a blast"!! :-)
