Help Going abrouad, leaving HTC Desire at home!

Probably a simple question.........

I have an HTC Desire on Orange but don't really want to take this abroad with me, mainly due to the battery life.

Can I just put the SIM into another Orange phone - in this case a Nokia 6300? Will the phone work OK and more importantly, will it affect the HTC when the SIM is put back two weeks later?!

Can you not take your charger, or are you away from electricity? I've taken mine abroad twice now and as usual charge it up every night. Don't know about Orange data cost abroad, but T mobile (now in bed with Orange) do a fixed data charge, I think

Yes, I know they are valuable. My first one was stolen just before Christmas. However it's surprising how many people don't realize that most home contents insurance cover them on 'all risks' or 'personal possessions' sections.

As far as I know there shouldn't be a problem swapping sim cards. I put my replacement sim into an old Motorola until my new Desire was delivered.

You can do that and there should not be any issues.
 
what no one has suggested is whether your nokia 6300 is able to work abroad with roaming?

for example is it dual or quad band etc? I havent got the time nor the most stable net right now to google that particular nokia...BUT its not just a matter of a SIM card working but also if the phone can handle roaming on networks abroad..

also as sid mentioned above be VERY careful of any charges abroad by Orange...there are numerous horror stories from say iPhone users when their data lines werent turned off properly and they were still paying etc...
