Going from iPhone to android

I currently have an iPhone 3 which I hate, my missus has the experia x10 I'm hoping to get the galaxy s2 or the nexus will I noticethe difference in speed of Internet and all round speed of the handset compared to the original iPhone?

You will definitely feel a difference in all around speed with regards to the hardware. I don't know if you will see a difference in speed in regards to the internet (unless you upgrade to an LTE phone). But overall the phone should fly.

Going from the iPhone 3 to a Galaxy S2 or the Nexus will feel like getting out of a Toyota Camry and getting into a Porsche. However, to extend the automobile metaphor, the speed limit for both is determined by the roads, or in the case of the internet, your data connection. If all you have is 3G service in your area, i don't think the internet will be faster on one or the other.

I do tend to get 3G signals in my area , now will the Internet be quicker if I use my wifi ?

I find the iPhone pretty slow sometimes

Yes, Wifi will be faster than a 3G connection, as long as the signal strength is decent. If you have both a weak 3G and weak Wifi signal your phone can end up continually negotiating between the two and drain your battery.

Wifi is definitely faster than 3G.

But I have to disagree with the car metaphor, only slightly. With an iPhone 3G, your hardware has probably degraded and isn't as fast as it used to be, so the internet may be slow. The Android device (or, alternatively, a new iPhone) would not have this degradation and be able to use 3G a bit more effectively. So, it may actually load content faster, even though 3G speed rates have not changed. Probably not a whole heck of a lot, but it may be noticeable. But you won't find out until you try it.
