Gonna write an app for Android

brian213

Lurker
I got a Galaxy S not too long ago and want to write an app to monitor AMB Identification and Timing systems over a network (lap timing for road racing).

Wish me luck!

I would love to find an earlier android phone with a pop out keyboard... :)

cool, glad to hear I'm not the only one...I signed the license with AMB already, so, gotta figure out java... ;)

I also need to learn how to do a backup of the Galaxy S before I mess it up with broken code. ;)

In the short term, grab a copy of the Android SDK and install it on your desktop computer.

Android SDK | Android Developers

You can then do the initial development and testing within the SDK.

Backing up your phone is a bit more involved since it will likely require that you root your phone. Apps like Titanium backup are available that can backup apps and data.

Thanks. Got the JDK and Android SDK...now to get the phone talking with them.

Then I think I need to get it rooted via steps through the SDK.

Will check out Titanium Backup.
