Help GOOD for Enterprise Work with ICS?

SeattleYanksFan

Android Expert
I just got the RAZR since it's compatible with GOOD for Enterprise (because it has Gingerbread) and found out today that I can exchange it for the Galaxy Nexus. I do need Android 4.0 to be compatible with GOOD, however, and the GOOD website does not currently list the Galaxy Nexus as a supported device. That said, I don't see why it wouldn't work, so if anyone can chime in I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Do you currently have an Enterprise Data Plan? There's some code for it that they mention in the client (assuming VZW SGN version).

co-worker bought one, but could not sync because of his account coding which was a generic one, but he could get in.

He then tried the OWA client (web outlook) and said that would do just about all he needs for replies, etc.

I'll just add that I have the option for GOOD, but I just choose to use OWA.

You will most likely have to add a pin on the lock screen, and then it's another app to manage that uses encryption. To me, GOOD is just too complex IMHO.

Yes, I have been using GOOD on my Incredible for the last year and on my new RAZR. I hate GOOD, but my firm gives us no choice but GOOD for email on Android/iOS. Therefore, while I would much prefer to use some version of Outlook or what have you, it's not an option.

I appreciate the responses so far.

If anyone can install, login, and sync with GOOD on his or her Galaxy Nexus, I would love to hear from you.

I can bookmark, he's on a flight now and won't be back to his home town until 1am. Can ask him late Monday morning on if he got it fully functional, but hopefully someone else can chime in before that!

I'm not willing to run GOOD, but that's just me (since it won't run with root, snarf snarf!)

I've researched MDMs recently and they are all excited about ICS. They should be supporting it soon, I know their competition will be.

I don't have experience with Good, but I can only say that the stock Mail app works flawlessly with my corporate exchange account. Emails, contacts, calendar all work perfectly.

Yep I have GOOD. Working like a champ on the GNex.

I installed Good today on the GNex and it initially worked fine, until I got kicked off for it not being an Enterprise plan (didn't need this on iPad with ATT and my enterprise plan was on my other VZ BB line). I got it added but then when I reinstalled with a new pin it keeps crashing at the sync phase. So I don't know if it's our work server with ICS, or just a problem with my account. I'm going to try to see if IT can clear up Monday and let you know - sounds like others have had success though.

I am surprised you didn't need an Enterprise plan with the iPad. I thought GOOD always requires it. I would definitely appreciate an update if you can remember to provide one.

Businesses choose Good because of the ability to remote wipe. For some reason, other solutions like Microsoft refuse to go all the way and provide what some businesses insist upon having. ( The main two things separating now are the ability to require password protection, mandatory, and the ability to remote wipe).

Me, too. Working fine just like previous versions of Android. No detectable difference.

Did you have a unread bubble notification over the GOOD icon on your previous android? Everything on the GNex resides in the notification bar.

I work with Good extensivly at my job, and the only carrier that you get a notification from is Verizon. The strange thing is, some people get the data plan message, while others don't. I installed it on my GNex, but for kicks decided to use carrier as "Other" instead of Verizon. Been working fine for a couple of days without issue. I do not have the Enterprise data plan.

That's interesting. My firm used Good when it first started supporting Android for the same reasons that you list above. However, as of mid-2011, they came up with a solution that allows them to use stock Android mail for exchange. I know we still require remote wipe and password protection. So, I'm not sure how they achieved the solution. All I know is that I hated having to use Good, and now love using stock.

Let me know what you can find out. One of my high level IT guys told me the other day that remote wipe was the last big reason.

It runs our iPhones, as well. So we'd have to use it probably anyway for those users. But if stock Android doesn't need it, that would be cool.

I haven't noticed yet. Seems like my Good times out all the time anyway because of the mandatory PIN protect that my company requires. Makes the widgets that come with Good useless because they time out and lose access to calendar and inbox.

Good for Enterprise will not sync with my Galaxy Nexus - Verizon. Is anyone else having this issue and is there a solution?

Did you call Verizon (*611) to ensure when you upgraded, the GOOD subscription was also moved over to the new plan? Sounds like it should be obvious this will happen, but I just upgraded to the RAZR and the GOOD subscription was not included, and thus GOOD would not sync, until I called *611 to have my new plan updated for GOOD.

Your best bet is to work with your IT team to get this going.
For now, the GNEX is not certified, but i've seen positive reports in getting it activated.

In addition to having the "good" code on your data plan with Verizon, there are certain backend things that may be done that are out of control of the user and that is why I recommend working with your IT team first.

Good for Enterprise is pretty good in getting things certified pretty soon. However ICS may take them a few days.

In all fairness, Good has had over a month since the UK version was released on Nov. 17. Hopefully Good gets its app certified for 4.0 soon. It certainly didn't sleep on it when iOS 5 (or whatever the 4S brought) was released.

It is your phone, if your company needs to keep in touch they will come up with a solution that works. Mine uses good and I don't carry a work cell or have email on my phone. They don't like it but I don't always make it to things they want me to show for. If it mattered, they would find another solution. I am not giving up admin rights and things like that to use this crappy client.
