Goodbye Samsung Vibrant after almost 5 months

I wholeheartedly agree with you. My Vibrant out of the box was pretty stable. It lagged but i never dropped calls and my GPS worked fine but did take a while to lock on.
However, we CAN modify them if we want and since i have it is faster and doesnt lag like it did. I do agree that we were told we would get the upgrade and is a reason i bought mine and we havent got it yet and may not for a while.
But, i am willing to root mine and do it myself and IF/WHEN we get Gingerbread or Froyo as an official release, i can flash the phone back to stock like it was the day i opened the box and install the official upgrade and in the meantime, im using a custom version of Froyo which has flash and voice bluetooth dialing.
 
I am ultimatley going to have to reroot my phone cause I guess I'm going to wait to see what else comes out. Something other than a Samsung thats for sure

i went ahead and got the phone tonight at a bestbuy location. i'm still messing with it and getting used to the phone so i can't comment too much.

im reallying liking the design of the ns better than my vibrant. sleeker looking. my phone isn't branded t-mobile so it's straight black on the front when the screen is off. the phone is quick and i haven't noticed any lag whatsoever. i'm getting used to the new user interface quickly and im not missing touchwizz. feels cleaner. i really miss swype and i'm working to get it on my ns. i downloaded and installed but it's not working for some reason.

to be completely honest, the phone doesn't remind me of my vibrant a bit. i'm anxious to see if the battery life is improved. i hope so.

edit:got swype to work. now i love it.

I've read the battery life is real good on the ns. But no Swype? Yikes, another strike.

Cool, I love the fact it isn't branded, but I do love Touchwiz so I would miss that...

And what about rooting? Does it root good?
 
now that i'm getting to mess with my ns phone more, i have to update and say i'm really starting to like this phone a lot. it's quick, crisp, and the battery life is impressive compared to what i was used to with my vibrant. with the use today, typically i'd had to of already started charging my phone. on my ns, i still have 1/2 battery life left. other than that, i doubt i'll root my phone. i personally just don't have any need to root because non rooted it's capable of doing everything i want.

I have recently switched over to BlackBerry.

Had a Vibrant from day 1 release in Canada.

So many problems with the phone, freezes, over heating, random shuttdowns, everything was stock, did so many factory resets, all for far too long.

Had a 3 year contract, someone else took over the plan, poor soul.

My lesson learned is, NEVER buy a Samsung phone ever again.

I also did not listen to all those people who warned me about the Behold fiasco and how Samsung will drop support very quickly.

Nexus S ring a bell?

If vibrant ever gets a proper 2.2 upgrade, you can forget about 2.3 because Samsung wants you to buy a new phone for that.

Well, I have to think possive about Samsung becasue:


  • I have the Galaxy Tab
  • I have the Vibrant
  • Right now I can't afford to buy a new phone
All in all though the Vibrant is pretty sweet. When the vibrant gets 2.2 if its anything like the tabs 2.2 it will work out good.

They are already planning a new Samsung Galaxy Tab for spring release.

Watch how quickly they drop support for the Tab, which is still on 2.1

You guys are stuck on Froyo, you can stop wondering about 2.3 ever coming to your phone.

Ever heard of the Nexus S? You have to buy that one, to get 2.3

OP here. Yeah, the post referred to a non-US Vibrant.

To date, no official support for any of the US Samsung Galaxy S phones. Pretty sad this phone was released in July for both ATT and T-Mobile and zero 2.2 update. That's a long time considering 2.2 was released to Nexus One owners in May and to HTC and Motorola Owners in August/early September. Even the very old original Moto Droid got the 2.2 update months ago.

Pretty sad Samsung especially considering Galaxy S is supposed to be their flagship phone (now Nexus S). Samsung has moved on to newer products. A lack of software support will make people thin twice before buying another Samsung phone.

True that, Im just hoping they dont just drop the Tab like they did their phones.

I mean I am almost ready to say forget it and install Nero v3 TouchWiz Edition rom
The problem with the rom though is I really don't want to loose my apps and data everytime I update the rom and I wish the updates were all OTA.
 
Nero v3 with the voodoo lagfix is very much worth it. I have tried out atleast a handful of roms and it is by far the fastest and best one to date. All you have to do is run Titanium Backup before you flash a new rom and you won't lose any of your apps. I just did a head to head against a stock MT4G and Nero v3 is the first Rom that actually blew the doors off of the MT. My brother was really surprised. Just do it, you won't be sorry.

Or flash a ROM from the XDA Devs. Ill be doing that. Samsung dont support our phones worth a crap but the Devs at XDA are doing a great job. Many ROMs to choose from.
