Google acquiring Motorola Mobility

Doubtful it will truly go beyond Motorola being nudged to open up its bootloaders and be more open since its now a part of Google.

The Droid 4 will be a much better phone (or Droid 5, since the Droid 4 is probably almost done anyway).
 
The purchase was more than obvious to most tech nerds... they bought it because of the whole patent war. Google could care less about Moto hardware (or software). Google has been searching for Patents.... Moto has had patents for almost 10 years now. Google simply bought Moto to control the patents so it can fight Apple's onslaught on HTC, Samsung, (soon Moto) and anyone else using android.

Apple has successfully blocked the samsung Tab from being sold in the EU, and its working on blocking HTC tablets and others soon.

With over 5,000 patents that motorola has... it now has an army to finally fight back and defend all the OEMs. That or scare the crap out of apple enough for it to back off and leave android alone in the whole "copy cat" game apple is claiming.

Google has stated it will not mess with Moto much if any at all, the buy out was for the Patents plain and simple. But, come on.... they have to nudge a little. =-) You buy a toy, you just gotta play with it once in awhile.
 
^ Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Also, other vendors may shy away from Google's Android in favor of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, etc. according to some theories.
 
Realistically this is most likely for the patents that Moto has. They also may use them to begin entering the hardware market, which Google wasn't really in before.

Didn't Google sell phones directly from their website at one point, which turned out to be a bust? I can't remember the name, maybe Nexus? :confused:

They did, but this puts them in a manufacturing position. Samsung made the Nexus and Google just sold them. That bombed out and they decided to sell them in retail stores instead.

Maybe this is off topic, but AT&T gets sued and in trouble by wanting to purchase TMobile because of a monopoly, but Apple can just BLOCK other brands from selling in countries?

How does that make much sense?
 
I agree with AT&T being blocked from buying T-Mobile. That would be bad.

As for apple, now that Steve Jobs is one step from a flat line, maybe apple will release products that arent all the same and they'll stop being d-bags.
 
... but it's worse to say "no you cant sell your tab here".... why is apple allowed to have a monopoly?

No one is allowed to have a monopoly, apple is good at toying with words and cutting through red tape. Is it right? no. can they be stopped? yes.
