Help Google contacts not updating

[philtablehat]

HTC Desire
Froyo 2.2
Orange UK

Having exported address book file to pc, and imported to Google contacts, my Desire now reads contacts from my Google account. I then deleted all contacts stored on the phone to remove duplicates.

However, I now don't appear to be able to edit contacts. Changing primary contacts reverts after a few minutes, and I am unable to add new contacts to Google from my phone. It's almost as if my Desire is set to read only, or something.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Have you recently switched from googlemail to gmail? I did this and experienced the same problem as you.

The two ways around this are -

Restore factory settings and then setup again under gmail (you will lose everything that isn't backed up).

or,

Switch back to googlemail from Gmail on your PC.

Thanks

Ah ha. I did indeed switch from Googlemail to gmail. Difficult decision now though! Will let you know if it rectifies the problem.

Many thanks.

Spot on. Factory reset fairly painless, too!

Thanks for your help, Jim.
