Google Contacts partially missing!?

[neilattard]

I just purchased a Google Nexus 4 carrying Android version 4.2.1 and when I synchronized with my Google account, I only got 600 of my 3000 Google Contacts on the phone.

Until yesterday, on my Nexus 7 tablet, I Had offline all the 3000 contacts. Earlier on today I removed and re-installed my Google account on the Nexus 7 tablet, to see if its just on the Nexus 4 or on both Nexus 4 and 7. Now I have only about 600 contacts both on the Nexus 4 and 7. Note that when I first synchronized the Neuxs 7 it was carrying an older Android version.

Is there some bug in the Contacts/People app on the Android 4.2.1 or something else?

Did you really lose the contacts or did a bunch of duplicates get merged?

Is your contacts app set to display only Google contacts? Has the display properties always been set as it is now?

Also, are you sure the 3000 contacts were in your Google account and hadn't been pulled from other locations like FB?
