Google DST Bug Returns

Two more questions...

Why is the Calendar even concerned about what time it really is? Its job is just to act as a database for logging appointments.

Why do the appointment jogs only happen on my droid, but are always correct on my PC? They’re both accessing the same database, or whatever they call it.

...I think this puzzle is possessing my cranium.

It could just be something to do with the coding on android. Even though they are running the same application....they each are coded differently and act differently.

Or maybe even the coding on my particular Android? Asking because (a) no one else seems to be suffering this and (b) I happen to have an ancient droid, running on 2.2.2, although I tried 2.3.3 to no avail.

One oddity is that if I create the same type of recurring appointment in my other email address, it works fine, even after April. So for the ultimate test, I just ordered a Galaxy Nexus and (I think) returning my eensy Optimus.

But I, believe it or not, liked the Optimus so much better, I’ve had the live number switched back and will ship the Gnex back Monday... long story.

Meanwhile, back to the appt time prob, I found this:

Calendar for Android 2.3
Problems with sync
  1. Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Applications, then Manage applications.
  4. Select Calendar Storage.
Note: If you don't see 'Calendar Storage,' press < Menu > again, then select Filter > All. On some devices, you won't see 'Calendar Storage.' It is fine to ignore this step if it doesn't apply.
  5. Select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
  6. Restart your device. Press and hold the < Power > or < End call > button, then select Power off. Press the < Power > or < End call > button to power on.
And THAT doesn’t work either, even after re-upgrading to 2.3.3. Oh well, I’ve lived under worse curses...

And finally, in case anyone is actually interested, the problem appears to be fixed. I had to (a) do the Gingerbread update again, (b) clear calendar data as shown above – twice, and (c) clean the catbox whilst standing on one foot.

The giveaway was the Gnex didn’t do it, nor did entering the same dates on my other email address.

Even though all this appears to have started with the DST tripup, I deserve a big Duh for that one.

I just wish you, or somebody here, had suggested “c” earlier. It doesn’t say a word about it in the user manual...
