what will happen if i delete my google email account on my galaxy s3. will the phone still work properly?

Hey Dennis!

Yes, the main functionality of the phone (calling, etc.) will work, but you'll be unable to fully use the capabilities of the Google-related services (Play Store, Google+, Gmail, etc.) that rely on knowing your account if your account is no longer present.
 
^^^ agreed. Android belongs to Google and as such, if you remove your Google account from your Android device you will lose a lot of its functionality.
