Google I/O 2014 Discussion / Coverage

Trouble is Xposed doesn't work with ART lol.
The Xposed dev always said once ART comes out of beta he'l work hard on fixing it. There was no point before since it would probably change in 'L' and be a waste of time. Plus there was next to no documentation about ART to work with
Well my phone is at EOL so it's custom roms for me anyway.
What I'm gona do with my Nexus tab...... I haven't decided. Maybe it won't get L either?

Any hints of some Google hardware btw?

I'm betting the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012), and Nexus 10 aren't going to make the cut for "L" release. They will all be 2 years old by that time, and if this is any indication none of them appear to be getting access to the developer pre-release that is happening later this morning.

There will of course be custom ROMs supporting it though.

No hint of the HTC nexus tablet yet. Looks like it will be released along side of L later this fall.

Ehhh, I don't know, but I would still be fine with custom ROMs of L as funky also supported :)

It's alive. Just a few months ago we saw the first prototypes of Google's Project Ara modular devices. Fast forward to today at I/O and the ambitious project is already working with real devices.

If you're looking for a place to talk about Google's first batch of Android Wear smartwatches -- including the LG G Watch, the Motorola Moto 360 and the newly-announced Samsung Gear Live -- look no further.

If there is a theme for day 2 of I/O it's "crazy stuff becoming real." Earlier today a Project Ara device was powered on for the first time, and just a little bit later Project Tango has a manufacturer.

If the Nexus 2014 is getting Android L, then the Nexus 4 should at least be capable of running it. The chipsets are nearly identical IIRC
Sure the Nexus 4 can run Android L. But the Nexus 7 2012 maybe not so much. For example, you can already enable ART on the N4 and N7 2013, but not the N7 2012.

My money says the N4 gets L, the N7 2013 does, the N7 2012 does not.

It wouldn't surprise me. I was fairly positive NVIDIA dropped support for the Tegra 3 chipset.

Can anyone explain this Phandroid Bot thing please?

It's an automated posting bot that creates a brief summary/intro and a link to the full Phandroid article. It use to post to the News forum, but recent changes to the layout have made it so it started posting in the Android Lounge. Staff for the time being is going to start moving/merging these links to the proper location in hopes that maybe it will become an active topic starter.

my N7 2012 has been running ART flawlessly for months now so surely its a political thing? Its more than capable physically and drastically improves performance

Ahh, so it wont reply to me :(
Lol thanks mate

I wonder if it would be possible to port Android 5.0 to older devices, I might try to port it to my Kindle Fire HD 7" as it's the only Android device I have at the moment.

Correct, you need a ROM with it enabled as an option.
Exactly - that was my point. ART has already been made available for the N4 and N7 2013, even unrooted, but not the N7 2012. So I'm thinking that's probably a good indication of what Google intends will get Android L and what won't.

Accordingly, my wife will keep her N5, I'll hang onto my N4 for another year or so, and I have a refurbished N7 2013 coming.

Good point as well
