Help Google Mail Alerts! Make them stop!

Everytime I get an email on my gmail account it makes a noise alert. Is there anyway to stop the noise? I don't want a noise every time I get an email.

Oh and it's the gmail app that I am using.

menu button (far left) > settings > sound > notification ringtone > silent

or

menu button (far left) > settings > sound > volume > uncheck incoming volume for notifications > lower the slider to the left

The gmail app has its own settings menu.

Start up the gmail app. Click the menu button. Click "more." Click "settings." Toggle the notifications or change the ring tone from there.

I noticed within that gmail menu of settings there is a toggle at the very bottom to only notify you once when you have email.

Is there a way to set notifications for just certain gmail criteria? Like if an incoming message matches a label? I am using the basic gmail app.

easy fix goto the Settings ... Acount&Sync///look for gmail acount tap on that so uncheck sync Gmail and use the k9 mail client has more settings and easier then the default mail client.
