Google Maps 5.0 now available

Put 2 fingers on the screen and press up and the map tilts, also does it when you turn the compass on

tilt the screen as in actually tilt the device in my hand?

i don't think 3D buildings work on desire

They do work on the Desire. There is only 3D in a very sellect bunch of cities, and in my country's only 3D city, Copenhagen, it's only in the center of the city.

You have to zoom far enough in so that the 3D buildings appears, it is not enough just tilting the screen with 2 finger-slide.

Some people are saying rotate works some are saying it does not. It certainainly does not seem to work for me. Can we figure this out?

Just to be clear that we are all talking about the same thing. rotate is when you place thumb and finger on the screen then move them in oposite direction across the screen sideways in a twisting motion.

It was clearly stated that this was not going to work on the Nexus one ( or beta version of the Desire as I like to think of it :0) and indeed does not seem to work on my early unbranded AMOLED Desire running 405.2. So can the people saying it works for them confirm their specs inc SLCD/AMOLED and the circumstances underwhich rotate works for them? That way we can figure out if this is a misunderstanding, a software or a hardware thing.
thanks

Sorry, got compass mode muddled with rotate

Why I can't find it in Market?? I have Maps version 4.4 and I can't get update or even find this app in Market place. Can someone help??

pajopatak just simply 1) go into Android Markets on your phone, 2) click the search button (top right corner) 3) Type "Google Maps" should be first entry that comes up in the list...

Thanks for fast reply, but as I just said I can't find it in market, that's like first thing I did was search that but the app just isn't there. Maybe it is a problem cause of my country or something, i don't know, but it's a free app so it shouldn't be a problem..

i think a lot of people are confusing compass mode with rotate, as one poster above has said.

On mine, as i honestly believe everyone elses, tilt works, compass mode works, 3D buildings work (when i go to new york!) but rotate does not.

Thanks mate. Got it working for Brum and Cardiff which is really handy 'cos I go to these cities all the time (not!).

You'd have thought they would have modeled the capital . Ahh well, I guess it will be pretty cool once they have done a few more cities I guess!

I do think it was a lil silly of google to release the 3D maps in this version, considering alot of people are saying that not even MAJOR cities have been mapped...kinda think maybe they should of saved that for later..

And I can confirm that rotation (via finger twisting) does not work on my desire...and the map rotation is a little off at times...but its good to see it and I can see it will be updated in another version from google..

roll on more updates for GMaps :D

I suspect that most of these people aren't zooming in enough. You have to be really zoomed in for the buildings to appear (already stated in this thread at least once).

actually as has been stated theres only 3 cities in the UK that have 3D mapping...and not a vast amount globally....

not enough that I believe google should of released it just yet...I think maybe they should of waited a little before releasing the 3D aspect...hell give us SD control first before 3D..everyone and the damn 3D trend these days...

Something I've noticed since the update is that on checking battery usage maps seem to always have quite a high %. Even over night when def not opened maps, still there. I've turned latitude off but this doesn't seem to make a difference. Anyone else?
