Google Maps 5 not fully functional on eris?

[sonodelirii]

I was wondering if all the features of the new Google Maps 5 were available on the HTC Eris as shown in their promo video:
Google Maps 5 for Android: 3D Maps and Offline Caching

I have reflashed a clean os install (android v2.2.1) and downloaded latest version of google maps just to be sure but still no dice. Buildings in cities appear to be slightly 3dish like in the left picture but:

No compass feature
No ability to slide two fingers down the screen to go in to full 3d mode

Is the Eris just too old to support these new features?

thanks

LOL... Dude you have to use custom roms and launchers to get it to perform well enough for basic day to day use. A high end app like maps (with 3D) is going to require what the 4 year old tech in the eris just cannot deliver.

Remember the Eris EOL'd in less than a year after its release. It released in November 2009 and by June 2010 it was EOL. The internal SoC was already old when the phone released.

Arm6 just can't handle it.
