Help Google maps always facing north?

I just got a universal phone holder and mount from Ram products for the bike, much more secure than using the Droid x car dock, and tried using Google maps. It works , but the map always shows north at the top of the screen(landscape) no matter which direction I'm going. I don't remember it doing this in the car dock. Shouldn't the direction you're going be at the top of the screen? Is there a setting I missed or something?
I'm still on rooted Froyo if it matters. TIA.

Opps, I was using 'my location' in the stock cardock app since it has the speedo readout. Google maps is working, my direction of travel is at the top of the screen. Duhhhh!
