Help Google Maps Draining Battery

Since the most-recent update to Google Maps, it constantly drains my battery, even if I'm not using anything that should cause Maps to run. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Have you tested that? Like gone into Settings > Battery and seen that it was google maps doing it?

To quick solve it you could get a task killer to kill the app...

Also, check your "Latitude" settings, open Maps and go to Settings-Location Settings, and make sure Location Reporting is off and Enable Location Sharing, Enable location history, Automatic check-ins, and Check-in notifications are all unchecked. This is usually the cause of Maps draining the battery, another thing is to disable the stand-alone GPS and possible Google Location Services when they are not needed.

I'm having the same problem. Latitude is off and it sometimes will consume 35% of my battery in a 6 hr period. The only way to defeat it is turn off Google Location services. But that's BS because in order to post with a location on Google+ you have to have it turned on. There's no reason to put that much into managing a phone that was supposed to be designed properly in the first place.

I agree. I shouldn't have to turn off Google location services to keep maps from draining my battery. I finally just uninstalled the updates to maps, which I also shouldn't have to do, but at least it works.

Interesting, I keep all of my services (GPS/Google Location/VZW Location) on all the time, and do not experience this kind of battery drain at all, but I do not use Google+ either (it is disabled). Perhaps the problem is Google+ accessing Maps as a service and not truly a Maps issue?

i had huge battery drain issues with it also, maps was often the app using the most cpu etc... since i did a reset and went to the leak, i havent had that same issue pop up again.

Would someone mind telling me what you mean by going to the 'leak'. Although, I'm a technical person, I'm kinda new to this particular technology.

Thanks much!

Ditto.

I assume this is a NEW rom?

I'm still using the leaked ICS that was given out months ago.
I was wondering if I should find the actualy HTC release and install it?

I'm not really having any issues though.
I've got the 2800 mAh battery since battery life always sucked. LOL!
I still have to recharge at lunch time or it's dead when work ends.

But I stream a lot since I have an unlimited data plan.

A "leak" is a semi-official ROM issued (ie. leaked) by HTC to the world in one way or another, but not officially released by the carrier, such as Verizon. It is digitally signed by HTC which is almost impossible to fake, it is technically authorized by HTC and does not void your warranty. It is typically been provided as a ZIP file that can be copied to your SD card, renamed PH98IMG.zip then flashed via HBOOT, the factory recovery tool built into the phone. The drawback is that it is not always the most stable release of software (although many are far better than Verizon versions), and you will likely not get further Over-The-Air updates from the carrier. The other drawback for many people is that the installation process will completely wipe your phone back to factory defaults as it does a full file system format in the installation process. In the past it had come in what was called an RUU format, that was an executable file you ran on a Windows PC to update the firmware, but we haven't seen one of those for a while, people often call any leaked HTC firmware an "RUU" even though technically it is inaccurate.

The latest and currently most stable factory ICS ROM is version 4.3.605.2, which also enabled the Global Mode features of the handset, so it is often called called the Global Mode leak or RUU, and is available from Android Police here: [Exclusive Download] Full RUU Build 4.03.605.2 For The HTC Rezound

I might have to check out the new rom.
Mine just says version 4.0.3

But I haven't really noticed issues with it.
All of these versions are based on Android build 4.0.3, look further down the page in Software Information for the Software number... The current "official" Verizon version is 3.14.605.12 710RD, the current leak I listed above is 4.3.605.2 710RD.
