Google maps - offline viewing available

"Official" info from Google:
Looks like downloaded maps are erased after 30 days...
That's probably OK, because it forces you to download the most up-to-date maps.
Although, a notification like "the downloaded maps are going to be deleted within 1 day. Would you like to update them?" would be most welcome...

In my defense though, wouldn't it seem logical for both apps to operate the same way and offer up the same menus? Seems a little odd they don't.

Navigation - did you mean Telenav navigation? If so, that is a different application than google maps

Update to the most recent Google Maps app in the market. Though, with your Wildfire I'm not sure you can get the newest version. What Android version are you on? Do you have froyo?

No. The nav icon opens in Nav mode. Maps icon opens in maps mode. That's why there are separate icons. You can switch to Nav mode from Maps but I'm not aware of a way to do the opposite.

Also, using Google Maps, allow you to explore locations and do searches, without having GPS on. When using Gogole Nav., you have to enable GPS to even use it and doesn't have all the same ablilities as Google maps.

Is there any easier way to do this for a really large area? I'm traveling across country and would love to pull offline maps for near my entire route (thousands of miles)... I wish google maps would let you select a navagation route then pick download maps '10 miles around my whole route'. Thanks

I'm a little wary about getting this update. I'm still on 5.4.0 (#5411). There are many comments about the latest update causing issues. I had issues a few versions ago. This version I'm using is rather stable, so I'm not comfortable upgrading at this time with so many negative comments even though I like some of the new features.

With Google maps for Android? Not at this time. Who knows - maybe sometime in the future...

Nope. You'd need to find a nav app that stores all map data locally such as CoPilot or Navigon.
