Help Google maps problems

Hello, I have the LG slider from VM, with Android version 2.3.4. Sometimes when I go to unlock my phone (which has an unlock pattern), it is very unresponsive and sluggish (to the point where it takes 10 seconds to unlock it). Then when it's unlocked it is still just as slow and sluggish until i go to Advanced Task Killer and kill google maps (most of the time it is there).

I am 95% sure that it's google maps that is causing this problem, the only other apps that are running are Swype, Google Services (google messaging service), Free power Widget, Advanced task killer, Launcher, and Android Core Apps.

The problem I am having is Google Maps keeps on opening itself in the background and (from what I think) slowing my phone when I go to unlock it. How do I make Google Maps not open up randomly? I tried closing all the programs that could potentially open it remotely and I have GPS turned off.

and I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be using ATK you don't need it. Use the task killer built into the OS. Same phone but do not suffer the same problem, Remember all apps are written to work with the OS but not with each other, sounds like you have a conflict somewhere. After the reset add them back one at a time until the problems start again

How do I get the OS task manager? I remember on my Intercept there was an app specifically called "task manager" and it had all this cool stuff in it, but in the Optimus there inst anything like that in the list of apps, I just have to go to "running services" in settings.
