Google Maps update keeps failing

I can't seem to get Google Maps to update to 4.50.

The update downloads fine, but then just says installation unsuccessful!

Anyone got any ideas how to get this app updated?

Could it be because the phone is rooted?

Same here, and i'm thinking the same. Do you have a custom ROM? I'm using the MoDaCo one.

There are some instructions on Modaco on how to fix this.

You have to remove the current install through adb commands as Paul put it in the /system/app directory (which he has changed for the R9 release).
Once removed you have to extract the original apk from the ROM you used and reinstall it, again through adb commands.

You can then uninstall it in the normal way and install the new version from the marketplace.

A bit long winded but does work.

Either that or install the R9 ROM.

Thanks, i'll just live with it til I get my new SD card through and install the new ROM I guess.

Hopefully Sense doesn't crash 28 times a day on the R9 ;)

Sense hasn't crashed once on the R8 ROM for me.

Are you having heat problems? This has been known to cause unreliability on any build.

Don't think so, it usually does it when I close out of other apps or just sometimes when I unlock, not when i'm using it as such.

Frequently does it when I close out of Market. Never did it on the stock rom, the rooted 2.1 rom or the Lees Rom :o
