Help Google nexus 7 replacement screen

If any of you guys owned a company that made excellent tablets and sold them at practically cost, would you replace peoples broken screens for free?

There was a whole thread at XDA that people were getting pissed off in because Google/Asus wouldn't replace their broken screen free of charge. I found it to be quite idiotic. The ones who I noted that were successful in getting their screens replaced free used the tactic of "the screen lift issue is why my screen broke". I don't think that would fly though if your crack or break is permeating from one of the corners.

If you broke it, pony up and pay them. Be more careful next time. I know I've accidentally steppes on it a few times while the room as dark and it was on the floor. No problems yet

Any advice on how to handle the case? My screen broke from moving it from the hot outside to an airconditioned room...
Or do you have a case number to quote to the support rep? Give a claim a bit better punch.

Thanks!

hot to cold... broke?
really??????????????????????????????????

^^^^ wow...

maybe inside.. there is evidence that a part did overheat fast.. and caused the screen to crack. but have them open it at a repair shop, in front of you.

Dan thats hardly likely, I will have to send this to Asus (in Holland) - depending on their attitude, but if I open it - arguably we are a repair shop - or take it to one, they will inevitably say "warranty invalidated" , the point here is to do with the clear fact that these screens do crack and not just Asus/Google. but HTC and Apple and they are "corporately" denying that..
We are all being sold devices that not only do not live up to warranty, but are produced and sold without any testing and manufacturers are then denying responsibility, put bluntly its an international (Multinational) scam!

I don't believe any of the stories anyone comes up with as to how their screen broke on it's own. Every one I read is more crazy than the previous.

i agree there are a few fishy stories.

but .. i cant believe all.
it serves no purpose to lie here.. we cant approve any warranties or repairs.

many times.. life is stranger than fiction!

what is going on? how are they breaking?

dropped? both? do you have a case?

Yes dropped both. First I was very disapointed in as it only fell a very short distance onto carpet with a case, though the case is notg a great protector.

Second one the toddler did it!!!

short distance
carpet

talk about bad luck!

my daughter sat on the first tablet... :(

I bought a new screen from parts4repair to repair a 32Gb Nexus 7.
Doesn't come with the bezel fitted so you have to use very thin/strong double sided tape to stick it to the old bezel after cleaning the bezel and the area on the new screen it sticks to carefully with white spirit or similar.

Used the guide on ifixit for disassembly/reassembly and some high temperature tape to restick some internal cable coverings and such.

Not a cheap repair but doable.

I recently posted this concerning broken tablets. It worked well for me.

I wanted to post this message because I found that there are thousands like me with a broken Nexus 7.

I bought my first Android device, Nexus 7 Tablet, a couple of months ago. First off, I love it and I'm very happy with its performance and use. I have the 32 GB 3G tablet. It has been the most user friendly device that I have ever owned.

After only two weeks, I dropped it and cracked the screen. I had a heavy plastic sleeve around it, plus it was inside a padded canvas bag. Yes, it fell straight down on its' side on concrete.

The short story is I contacted Goggle, who I purchased it from, and they said 'not our problem', call ASUS. I called them and they repaired the unit for $150 plus shipping. I got it back and all is well.

There is a good ending to the story though. A friend suggested that I contact my credit card provider (Mastercard) about a possible reimbursement. I did, and while it took some time and a good bit of paperwork to satisfy them, I received a $150 check a few weeks after receiving the table back from ASUS.

So if you drop yours, give them call and you may be surprised how nice they were about it.

1 month old N7 32GB. Had my tablet charging in my hotel room flat on a glass covered table. 4 cracks from where the charger plugs in going about 2 in up and to the left and right. Use able as long as I rotate my tablet. Can't send it in for about a month, I want it to be covered under warranty, but will use credit card loss protection if needed.

Welcome to AF, sorry to hear about your troubles Desertsage. Either one will work I imagine. I paid with my credit card to get the 90 day accident protection for the replacement I just bought, since my first one got broken. :(

Mine cracked while I was cleaning the screen with Novus 1 and their cleaning cloth. Looks as if a gap appeared between the glass and the bexel in one spot; crack runs from there to the other side of the display.

This thing drives me crazzy when trying to type anything. An external key board to replace using the screen wud make it easier for me to use.
